Reuters just published this article about General Motors planning to close a plant in Ohio due to there being less demand for small cars.
Trump responded by saying:
“They better put something else in.”
It’s not the job of the President to tell private companies what products to make or how many kinds of products to make.
Shame on Trump for trying to give himself powers that are not authorized in the Constitution!
Boom! Doctrinaire conservatives have conserved nothing over the past three decades, in fact the losses are mounting starting with the culture war. Let the Paul Ryan-wing of the party explain a tax cut, the GDP, or the concept of rugged individualism to riffraff they have been waving in over our Southern border.
This might just win the reward for most worthless Free Republic thread EVER.
Or steal them from their rightful owners
You’re right but it is the governments job to promote US industry, balance trade and to protect US workers. So tariffs are in order.
Before reading, I ask: What would Freepers reaction be if Obama said this?
Now, prepare for incoming!
It was wrong of Obama to fire the CEO of General Motors.
No, it’s not satire.
But it's OK for Obama to tell Rick Wagoner, the CEO of GM, to resign.
Who here defended that?
It was wrong for Obama to force taxpayers to bail out General Motors.
I agree with you that it was wrong for General Motors to accept the bailout that Obama gave them.
I find it hilarious that a generally pro-business site such as this one is cheering Trumps use of governmental powers to punish a private corporation. If Obama/Clinton did this there’d be hell to pay, but because Trump does it its ok? SMH.
This is wrong on a number of levels. Doesn’t matter if there is a R or a D next to the president’s name.
Thank you for the link.
Obama was wrong to do those things.
Shame on Obama, the Rats and RINOS for ordering General Motors to cheat their creditors and enrich the un American Commie Union thugs.
GM took a taxpayer financed bailout. Unless they have paid back every penny plus interest, they are indebted to the federal government for their very existence. GM was bailed out to save the very factories they plan on closing. If they want to close them, then they need to pay the government back plus interest.
Trump has every right to tell them how to run their business.
If I were him I would tell GM that if they close those plants in the US that they can kiss any federal government contracts goodbye. No more government or military vehicle purchases. If they want to close plants they can close them in Mexico or Canada.
Too much credit is given to the purple lipped rat eared dog eater for any of his terrible decisions especially economic ones
I dont think he had enough brain power to power a pissants go-kart
a lap around the inside of a Cheerio
Other than trying to make our country Commie/non-white/Muslim that is
Doesnt the mailmans son have any comment??
Any foreskins in the drive train??
Are you a Jeb Bush supporter ?
We have a President who actually stands up for America. F*** the Globalist GM who accept billions of taxpayers money and then screw over thousands of workers
They could close down production of buick and cadillac and start production of muscle cars like the olds 442, and the chevy 409 again. Everyone wants suv’s and trucks, lets give them the option of high powered muscle cars. GM must have a few engineers that can figure this out.
