Democrats now view socialism more positively than capitalism, according to a new Gallup poll that comes as self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist politicians capture the partys attention.
The poll could add to a growing debate about the trajectory of the Democratic Party, which has seen increased energy around socialist movements and more candidates willing to step out on that economic platform, according to Frank Newport of Gallup:
Socialist Bernie Sanders competitively challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, and more recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a candidate with similar policy views and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, won the Democratic nomination in New Yorks 14th Congressional District. Several candidates with socialist leanings lost their primary bids in Aug. 7 voting, however, raising doubts about the depth of Democrats embrace of socialism.
Breaking down the numbers While the poll numbers among Republicans predictably show a highly positive view of capitalism and a generally negative view of socialism, the Democratic results reveal a trend of changing attitudes.
In 2010, the first time Gallup asked respondents about their views on capitalism and socialism, 53 percent of Democrats had a positive view of capitalism, and 53 percent had a positive view of socialism.

I always thought most democrats favored socialism already. I didnt think this was new.
So, Democratic socialists vs. Republican capitalists?
If voters reject the far left’s sharp swing toward communism, this could save America. If democrats win with an openly socialist agenda, then America was already dead - or so close that only a hot civil war could restore freedom.
Most of them couldn’t define either term if you gave them Google and 20 minutes to work on it.
The Dems cant hide it now, but I still expect these clowns to do the usual charade of campaigning as centrists. Every election cycle we get the same BS from them!
They just dont want to pay for it.
“Democrats favor socialism over capitalism for the first time, poll shows”
This article must be decades old.
Democrats are collectivists and collectivists are followers of whatever they can be convinced the group will accept them for believing.
None of them actually believes anything in the sense of arriving at a conclusion, unless you can call a feeling a conclusion, but the feeling is drawn from the group, so the conclusion isn't really arrived at so much as it arrives at them.
Obama was successful because he made them believe that they believed something and so did everyone else, and that it was their own belief ... i.e. hope ... then he filled in the blank space he made them think they chose to believe in.
Very sad to be a follower of anyone, but even sadder to follow bait and never know you're really just being used and controlled.
It’s not new. But do the average Demo believe in Socialism? Do they know what it is?
Yeah, socialism has such a long record of success......Dimocraps are mentally deranged.
Since most rats need a glass bellybutton, just to see, I would suspect they favor socialism, because they have no clue what it is. Other rats may favor it, because they think they can live off someone elses money.
Many CommieCrats have been closet-socialists for at least 50 years.
Let em wear it proudly or try to disclaim it.
IIRC, Germany has such a party.
No, first time enough were openly truthful about it.
Of course, that could have a lot to do with President Donald Trump, whose heavy emphasis on capitalist economic policies could be turning Democrats off to capitalism.
You may be right. Maybe they feel there is no longer the stigma there once was, so they dont think they need to hide it anymore.
It isn’t anything new. They weren’t smart enough before to understand the ideology they embraced. And the ones that did understand it thought it was too soon to be open about it.
Democrats want to redistribute your money and goods.
This is not new news.
I agree. Good point.
