Yeh, I think most gun enthusiasts understand how powerful both these handguns are.
For the non-gun educated, the term .357 magnum itself is enough to bring fear into their minds.
Both the Glock 10mm and the .357 magnum are serious personal defense calibers.
Which caliber is best against real muscles or something that simulates it?
YouTuber mark3smle tests this out by demonstrating which caliber is capable of against a ballistic gel.
Ballistic gelatin is a testing medium scientifically correlated to swine muscle tissue (which in turn is comparable to human muscle tissue), in which the effects of bullet wounds can be simulated.
This is probably what you need to understand, is that the ballistic gel gives you an idea of the path of the bullet when it penetrates a target tissue that is similar to real muscle.
These two powerful cartridges penetration are quite impressive. Traditionally, the .357 magnum has a long track record of a mini-hand cannon for personal defense.
In mark3smle test you can see the .357 penetration at 22 inches.
The 10mm is a newcomer in the hunting world, but has become a big player in the market for bear hunters or anyone needing extra power. See the rest and full footage of 10mm vs .357 Magnum here.
WHY NOT BOTH!
I would never recommend anything but a revolver for anyone who does not shoot often and become very experienced.
I agree. Why do they always have to compare anything to a Glock. Glocksters, lol. (snicker) (snicker)
The beauty of a wheel gun is it doesn’t leave the spent cartridges laying about.
Sometimes I drink my coffee black, sometimes I drink my coffee with cream...
Plus, can you imagine pistol whipping anyone with a Glock, lol.
ABCD, assess, breath, control, depart.
None of these articles discuss the effects of the rounds downrange after they pass through the perp. It’s wasted energy and in an urban environment endangers innocent people. Which is why the police don’t use .357.
3xactly!. I prefer the 10mm, but I’m also shooting it out of a revolver. I don’t knock .357 mag. It’s a great cartridge in its own right.
And if you are inexperienced and don't shoot often then I would never recommend a caliber as big as either of these because you won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn unless its pure luck.
Kind of felt the same a couple of decades ago.
I care about policing brass at the range, if a bear or lion is closing in, not so much.
Apples? Meet Oranges.
Semi auto or revolver?
Both supersonic. 158gr 357 vs 155gr 10 (.40 caliber). About the same velocity.
10mm 180 standard bullet. Heavier bullet. Perhaps more knockdown power
357 maybe 180 gr. Max though 158 grain is standard
357 probably better penetration because its smaller.
Truth be told I wouldnt want to get hit by either.
I would take either deer hunting though I find revolvers more reliable.
Many semi autos are lighter and easier to carry.
The entire modern ammo industry is trying to reproduce what the 357 magnum 125 grain hollow point was doing 50 years ago. There are many reasons cops moved away from wheel guns but the ammo wasn’t one of them.
Since I do not lead a life of crime, that only benefits me if I am fighting an irregular war against my own government, and that looks to be delayed until after 2024.
I used to love shooting .38s out of my dad-in-law’s .357 revolver.
With the weak kick, It was a joy to shoot.
.44 Magnum
