While flat-Earthers seem to trust and support scientific methods, what they don’t trust is scientists, and the established relationships between “power” and “knowledge.”

Can’t argue with that..........................

There was an idiot at FR who used to infect every spaceflight thread with “NASA hoax” garbage. I think he’s gone now.

“now we’ve got the Internet and mass communication … we’re not reliant on what the mainstream are telling us in newspapers, we can decide for ourselves.” I

and there is the rest of the story.

Truth is still Truth. It is costly to obtain and is to be treasured. We don’t vote on it or decide for our selves. Maybe so, right back to the garden of Eden eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil where we get to decide.....................

I befriended someone on Facebook, only to see that he was a flat earther. All they believe is centered on the idea that there is a conspiracy to lie to us about it. I didn’t see one in that group that couldn’t state a point without alluding to a conspiracy. It was sad to see. I definitely unfriended that person.

Flat earth is silly. Where I live we have hills, gullies and rocks, if anything it’s quite lumpy. Where are the lumpy earthers?

Questions on this flat earth thing. Yes too lazy to research the subject, but if anyone knows, do people live on the bottom side of the flat earth? Or is all that space wasted and gravity only works on the top surface? And if there are people on the bottom side, how do we know if thats us or not? How thick is the flat earth, obviously as deep as the oceans I’d assume?

“Despite early claims that a worldwide shared resource of knowledge such as the internet would create peace, harmony, and a common interpretation of reality (this idea comes from as far back as HG Well’s “world brain” essays in 1936), it appears that quite the opposite has happened. With the increased voice afforded by social media, knowledge has been increasingly decentralized, and competing narratives have emerged.”

Wells was wrong.

Douglas Adams was right. When?

“Meanwhile the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different cultures and races, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.”

Realize that this is all about people being able to communicate easier. Knowledge and communication go hand in hand.

So here we all have been proverbially dumped onto a proverbial Shipwreck Island and to our credit half of us aren’t dead and it’s been much longer than 6 weeks. But I don’t expect much harmony to result.

what I learned from the flat earthers is...Columbus had 4 ships. No one knows the name of the 4th cause it sailed over the edge.

And how much of this is bolstered by importing people with lower IQs and education levels than the native population?

The Canadian Flat Earth Society, from what I could tell, existed in order to provide its members with an excuse to meet and drink heavily.

I heard one of its charter members (Alden Nowlan?) a long time ago on CBC radio. He was terrific. He was not, however, serious.
