AI will make the most significant change in human life within the next 50 years than anything before.

Children born today may have to fight AI robots, in their lifetime, to survive.

People do not know what is coming.

AI will make advances, but were are very, very far away from artificial general intelligence. AI is still just a tool, nothing more.

The sum total of human knowledge essentially doubles every two years (35% CAGR). Moore borrowed the concept to describe falling semi-conductor prices (ie performance doubling).

Certain areas of study can grow even faster once start-step hurdles are overcome. Consider how fast aerospace advanced once the Wright brothers had perfected the basic operation of the wing.

Same is true with AI - it's being driven by the twin channels of genetic research and computing power. The entirety of our perception of reality aka consciousness is housed in the front section of our brains weighing maybe 2 lbs. Just a big bundle of nerves washed in a chemical bath. Perhaps only a few key gene expressions make the whole matter operate.

Then consider quantum computing, where we move from binary operations to perhaps infinite micro-states that mimic brain operations. Combine what is to be discovered about memory implant and resource processing, and who will be able to tell between organic & non-organic intelligence?

This is where the action is, and it should go without saying that of course the primary battlefield will be just that: a virtual battlefield. Forget space - the group/nation that controls AI will rule the world. Hence the AI arms race even as I type.

A century from now, Free Republic will be filled with angry robots complaining about lazy, do-nothing human free-riders.

When I read articles like this one I wonder whether AI has already taken over and is trying to convince us “move along, nothing to see here”:

Are any humans stupid enough to believe AI can’t conquer us and squash us like bugs? You betcha.
