BUSTED: CNN’s @JakeTapper Used “Offensive” Racial Slur To Describe Multiracial Haitians In The 1990s

CNN host Jake Tapper used the racially charged term “mulatto” to describe the Haitian elite in the 1990s, a GotNews review of Mr. Tapper’s old writings reveals.

Writing for the Washington City Paper, Tapper wrote a piece that ran June 26th, 1998, titled “The Witch Doctor is In.” In it, he used the offensive term to describe the victims of dictator Francois Duvalier’s militias:

According to dictionary.com, ‘mulatto’ is an “offensive” term used to describe “a person who has both black and white ancestors.”

In his article, Tapper also described an elderly Haitian man named Brun Icart as “black as night.”

Earlier this week, GotNews uncovered a sexist piece Tapper wrote in 1998 in which he fat-shamed sexual abuse victim Monica Lewinsky after he dated her. Tapper has several additional ties to the Clintons, having worked as press secretary for Democrat Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies, who is Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law.

“I’m not surprised that someone this close to the Clintons has such bigoted contempt for the Haitian people, given the rank devastation they’ve caused down there,” conservative political activist Jack Posobiec noted.

Stay tuned for more.

According to dictionary.com, ‘mulatto’ is an “offensive” term used to describe “a person who has both black and white ancestors.”

According to dictionary.com, "mulatto" is a word used to describe the offspring of one black and one white parent. According to Wikipedia, Haiti's elite is composed primarily of such people, and Wikipedia also uses the term "mulatto" to describe them.

I don't see the issue.

Apparently the word has an unfortunate etymology:

‘”MULATTO” IS A DON’T

Mulatto arguably has the ugliest roots of the antiquated terms on this list. Historically used to describe the child of a black person and a white person, the term reportedly originates from the Spanish word “mulato,” which, in turn, originates from the word “mula,” or mule—the offspring of a horse and a donkey. Clearly, this term is offensive, as it compares the union of human beings to that of animals.’

LMAO

My Hispanic dad always used the term mulatto when it applied, it means “mixed race” in Spanish. For Hispanics, it’s a descriptive term, not an insult.

Blacks use the term “high yaller” on each other (darker blacks say it about light skinned blacks), and they say it with contempt. I think it’s a far more insulting term.

So little Jakey Tapper isn’t P. C. pure as the driven snow, my my my.

Clearly, this term is offensive, as it compares the union of human beings to that of animals.

I believe it was Mark Twain who opined it was the animals that might rightly take offense at such comparisons.

Mulatto is used within Haiti to describe individuals in the upper economic class. Historically, the term is also used to describe the mixed-race faction during the Haitian revolution and subsequent civil war. I don’t believe the word is considered a racial slur outside of America, but it is the proper term used by Haitians and not considered remotely offensive.
