Where To Spend the Next 6 Weeks

Posted on 08/20/2017 8:12:59 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

You are my buds. I need a city where I can stay where I can guarantee a fast internet connection as well as access to restaurants, museums, movie theaters, etc. Even 2 weeks at a time/different cities would be cool. It's the hotel/airbnb place that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Privacy + a parking space. I'm looking at $2k+/mo. Too expensive.

I'd need a little more information about what is behind this six-week sojourn, but I'd recommend renting an RV and finding a nice campground not far from a town with a gas station and convenience store (or, better yet, a major truck stop) where you can get Internet service.

This is how I typically travel when I'm on a long road trip for work and I'm not meeting with clients. I'm usually camping 5-6 nights a week and staying in a hotel for 1-2 nights.

"River Cities are the best. All have old down towns, antique malls, hole in the wall bars, good restaurants. Drive from river city to river city in the Appalachia is a good vacation."

Pitt to Cincy to Louisville to Owensboro/Evansville; on to St. Louis to (briefly) Memphis to New Orleans...

I would be looking at Tennessee or Virginia, but possibly Texas.

Almost country, almost hippie.

When you decide on a city. Check Craig’s list for temporary vacation home rentals, Home Away, or VRBO.

I have booked though all three with good results.

Consider Texas: San Antonio, New Braunfels or San Marcos. All have rivers in town and you can check short term apartment rentals.

Hmmm.... my choices; Flint Michigan, Detroit, Cincinnati, Chicago (pref South Side), Orlando, LA (pref Watts), Gary Indiana, Camden Nj (sorry, any NJ city over 40k., New Orleans these are just to name a few. Oh, sorrry, I thought it read “Places where I could go to die in 6 hours”.

So it’s 6 weeks to “live”? Anywhere in ME right now, the Cleveland downtown restaurant scene is awesome right now and for cheap city living is dynamite. Spartanburg SC. is where I’m heading though.

Informed and funny are you guys. Found something in Vegas-$1700/mo. Minimum 30 days. BIG tv. Nice new rifle range.

Next topic will be a fixer-upper purchase in a state with the possibility of flipping a Senate seat(in addition to a house). It would be in the fall of 18’. Prairie dog shooting opportunities would point to Missouri/Montana. Don’t know if it’s a fall endeavor.

Cleveland!
Parks, museums, good food, good bars, baseball, R&R HOF, boats on Lake Erie, walking, public transportation, and if you get sick Cleveland Clinic is every where.

Kansas City has some really interesting museums. The Arabia Museum displays everyday items from the 19th-century recovered when the Arabia Steamboat was dug up. It had sunk on the way to the West and had been buried in frozen mud for decades. Everything was slowly thawed and repaired. The museum is like the Sears catalog of the 1800’s. There is also a miniature and toy museum there and the Nelson Art Gallery has many treasures.
