Helpful context from a pro: West Virginians are angry, easily misled, lots don’t speak English (tr)

On a night like Thursday, when President Trump was scheduled to headline a rally in West Virginia, you know the hot takes are going to be coming in fast from all directions, but who’ll go the extra distance to really stand out?

(Ta Da!) Stuart Rothenberg, senior editor at Inside Elections, went all out in sizing up the people of West Virginia, many of whom wouldn’t make it in as immigrants under the Trump administration’s policies, which are in clear violation of that Emma Lazarus poem.

Stuart Rothenberg @StuPolitics

Lots of people in West Virginia can't support themselves or speak English.

Respectfully as someone who comes from the region that is incredibly bigoted -- people from West Virginia are incredible hard-working folks https://twitter.com/stupolitics/status/893257471686475776  … 8:09 PM - Aug 3, 2017 · Mount Lebanon, PA

Thanks for the info.
I need a couple of years to get my ducks in a row. When I head out I don’t want to have to turn around because something didn’t go right.
When I head out I’m going to make sure I have a couple of years to travel at a very leisurely pace.

Inability to read “No soliciting” signs is hardly restricted to folks from WV.
Putting one up in Cleveland OH didn’t make a dent in the door knocks. In fact, I think some people seek them out hoping for less competition.

Back in the '60s I ran a typesetting shop and got tired of all the door-to-door salesmen (Remember Kirby vacuum cleaners?). I made up a sign that said
W A R N I N G
We shoot every third salesman
Two have already left

printed it on a yellow sheet of proof paper and posted it on the front door window.

We still got bothered but not as much. The real problem was that the neighbors saw only the large WARNING on yellow paper, thought we were under quarantine, and wouldn't come near us.

I have thought about putting a rack on the back to hold a scooter. Something to tool around in so I could leave my van to explore the towns.
I could find a good camping spot, set up the van and putter around on the scooter.
