Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with a particularly aggressive brain cancer called a glioblastoma.
If he does retire, how would his replacement be chosen?
In Arizona, where McCain is Senator, vacancies are filled by governor appointment rather than a special election. This means that Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, would choose McCains replacement.
Ducey is up for re-election himself in 2018, so its likely he will be very cautious about who he picks. Many are suggesting that Kelli Ward would be the safest choice, since she got 39.2 percent in her primary run against McCain. Shes already signed up to run for election again in 2018, but this time she will be running against Sen. Jeff Flake.

You have to be 30 years old to be a senator.
Kelli Ward is a friend of mine. She is an incredible person. She and her husband are both ER physicians. Incredibly dedicated professional and public servant. Ducey should name her without delay once McCain retires.
You're right. The traitorous, ope borders Mormon Mafia would see a Democrat elected rather than a conservative Republican. They have massive clout in the AZ GOP now.
No he does not. McCain is a traitor to the United States many times over. I have no sympathy for him. If he refuses to retire, then I pray his end comes soon, as I hoped with Kennedy.
Only when they die in office. But it is a distinct possibility. From Ducey's bio:
Ducey graduated from St. John's Jesuit High School in 1982 and moved to Arizona to attended Arizona State University while working at Hensley & Co., the Anheuser-Busch distributor owned by the family of Cindy McCain.
Ducey doesn't need any perks. He was the co-founder and CEO of Coldstone Creamery, before selling the company.
great info .
sadly it may happen .
speaking of kennedy-
he stayed on and on and on ...more than a year after
his brain surgery- was wheeled in when needed
(helped pass o’bummers stimulus-broke the repugs filibuster) mclame will be used the same way-

She's 32, two years past the minimum. Time passes!
What does owning property in Arizona have to do with anything?
I don’t see him coming back in the near future. Especially if he will be receiving kimo (sp). Heard on FOX news that McConnell wants a delay on the Health Care vote until he returns to the senate.
And, well he should. Flake has been a HUGE disappointment, to say the very least.
For some reason Team Trump prefers DeWit, the Treasurer & a Trumper. Last week a story surfaced that David Bossie of Citizens United (Bossie also in the Trump campaign) met w DeWit and another guy (forget who) to offer $ against Flake. They did not meet w Ward. I don’t know why.
In 16 I met w Ward’s staff & offered my help free. Nothing.
One of the knocks I heard here was that her husband meddled too much-—who knows? Could be sour grapes. But there is a reason Bossie didn’t meet with her.
Flake challenger Kelli Ward meets with Trump’s White House
DeWit is a better choice to take on Flake. I’m not sure Kelli can beat him. She is a better fit for the McCain seat via appointment.
What about Jan Brewer?
I like Jan for the job too
Doubtful, unless he gets to pick his own replacement (which should be considered a preposterous and unethical request) and it's someone like his daughter.
