Following the retirement of Major General Perry Smith, Governor Ivey has appointed Sheryl Gordon as Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard. General Gordon will be the first female Adjutant General in the history of the Alabama National Guard.
Governor Ivey called General Gordon a trailblazer and visionary leader with a distinguished military career spanning 33 years. General Gordon became a 2nd Lieutenant in 1981. She was promoted to Brigadier General in 2009 and Major General in 2011. She currently serves as the civilian Executive Director of the National Guard Association.
Being chosen to serve in this capacity is a great honor and is a responsibility I do not take lightly. However, I am confident my previous assignments have prepared me for this task.
General Sheryl Gordon will take command beginning August 1st.

Creeping leftism will do to the US military what no foreign power has been able to do.
If she’s the best qualified, fine. But if this diversity for diversity sake, RIDICULOUS
I’d be curious as to what branch she was commissioned in before becoming a general officer. That’s quite a collection of fruit salad on her uniform.
I was hoping DJT would bring this crap to a halt.
I think the problem may lie with Gen. Mattis, who may have been bitten by the same political bug as seems to have bitten the entire high command. How many of Obama’s choices to head the military have been sacked? How many of those forced into retirement have bee asked to return to duty? There has been a continuous destruction of the military since Ford allowed women into the academies.
Straight out of Madame Tussauds.
The could of suspicion is merited as long as affirmative action is legal...
She may be a Republican, but is she a Republican who mirrors Susan Collins? I personally do not know.
According to heavy dot com though she seems to be a true conservative & not a RINO

a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality.
"According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country. It's a great brainwashing process which goes very slow and is divided into four basic stages. The first stage being "demoralization". It takes from 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years required to educate one generation of students in the country of your enemy exposed to the ideology of [their] enemy. In other words, Marxism-Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of at least 3 generation of American students without being challenged or counterbalanced by the basic values of Americanism; American patriotism.--KGB Defector Yuri Bezmenov--Soviet Subversion of the Free Press (Ideological subversion, Destabilization, CRISIS - and the KGB)

Well said.
Red flag with white stars on her left?
General Officer Flag.
Knowing Kay Ivey I will give this general the benefit of the doubt and say it is a merit based appointment and not a gender/political one.
The command flag is either blue on white or white on blue for an admiral. Stars are consistent with rank. We hear them referred to as “flag officers.”
