I think this is less a matter of Behar imputing her own morality to Jesus than channeling the broad secular sense of him as a supremely chill dude whose chief virtue is that he Does Not Judge. Thats a weird read on a religious figure who speaks many times of hell in the gospels but thats our culture, for better or worse.
She may not even be the most confused person here. Two other panelists press Jack Phillips, the baker, on the idea that hes being judgey with gay couples, with one imagining that Christ might disapprove of their wedding but would tell them Im going to love you anyways. Well yes, thats how Christianity works. But the issue, of course, isnt whether Phillips is judging his customers or whether he loves his gay neighbors, its whether he should be conscripted by the state into participating in an event which his faith doesnt condone. The guys not claiming that gay couples are less moral than any other variety of sinners, only that the act of marriage between them is a sin which he doesnt want to be made complicit in. Jedediah Bila asks him at one point if hed refuse to make cakes for other sinners, like adulterers. She doesnt get a square answer, but Im guessing if you asked Phillips to make you a torte for a weekend tryst with your mistress (inscription: Heres to Cheating!), yeah, hed probably turn you down.
Note, by the way, how often he and especially his lawyer try to steer the conversation away from religion and towards the idea of cake-making as art. At one point the lawyer even describes the wedding cake as a canvas. Thats a smart argument legally, as youre on much firmer ground before the Supreme Court arguing free speech than you are arguing free exercise. If Phillips can convince Anthony Kennedy that Colorados antidiscrimination law is essentially compelling him to utter a statement he disagrees with, hes got a real chance.

How was Jesus on white chocolate curls? What about buttercream roses?
“As for you, do not pray for this people, . . for I do not hear you. Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger. Is it I whom they provoke? says the Lord. Is it not themselves, to their own confusion? . . . Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched” [Jeremiah 7: 1-20)
Uh, Behar, Jesus was a carpenter, not a baker.
The gays will say that the Church discriminates against them. They are playing the same game as those who wanted racial equality. The cause of racial equality is a noble one. All humans are part of Gods creation. However, behavior that defines who you are is based upon choice and not all choice is equal. The purpose of the attack on the Church is the effort to destroy the Church which is the last bastion against government control of the individual.
The Communist among us want to destroy the institution of the family. The seductive nature of this destruction describes a strategy that has no limits on its methods. Boys are being taught in the government schools that there is no consequence for sexual gratification. That gratification can come from homosexuality; not the opposite sex which carries the consequence of pregnancy. If sex occurs with the opposite sex, pregnancy can be eliminated through the morning after pill. The purpose of life is sexual gratification without limits: the seduction.
Marriage is treated as an outdated consequence of pregnancy and not the result of a romantic attraction between man and woman. Romance is an outdated culture because it puts sexual gratification secondary to the building of a relationship with a person of the opposite sex, which is Gods plan. Sexual gratification can now come at the click of a mouse: Girls waiting to meet Portland men for sex.
Romance requires ones respect for another. For the Communists, selfishness is the new norm. Marriage is another outdated institution because it limits the new purpose for life: self centered sexual gratification. Our moral society, governed by Natural Law, is now being replaced by moral relativism. This encourages Big Government to do anything it wants and the Constitution be damned. As with the indulgence in pleasure, there will be no limits to what government will do to those under its rule. There will be no government action subject to judgement. Fascism will be the way of government. The Utopian world without limits will fall like a house of cards. And with it will go the survival of the human race. They are destroying the notion of natural law right from under our nose.
When we let the Marxists throw out the tradition of marriage that has served our society for generations, we have destroyed one more thing: the idea that there is universal truth derived from natural law. Natural law has protected the individual from the collective. It is the basis of our Constitution.
The Marxists are destroying America from within. Same sex marriage is one more tactic from the Marxist tool box. It has become ingrained into the mindset of the Left to use their freedom of speech to indoctrinate their fellow citizens to what they want them to believe and limit the freedom of speech that says otherwise. The freedoms enjoyed by generations of Americans have degenerated into a tyranny that scorns Americas legacy of freedom to pave the way for the political oppression of the individual. We are becoming an Oligarchy where a small group control America. This collective social model that opposes our Constitutional heritage is the way of the Marxist.
Homo marriage has deeper implications than you can imagine. It is designed to control the individual by separating him from the sovereignty of the family. Pretty soon, when all the widgets that hold together our society have been loosened, the critical mass will have been reached and we will explode into the universe of history. Human beings will once again be set back in time to when the individual was the slave of the state.
Perhaps Jesus would have told Joy “Go and sin no more.”
How can you relate baking a cake and recording homosexual sex acts?
Ridiculous.
This is why people think the far right is nuts.
that would be a good question to pose to joy- would Jesus do a porno video for couple too? If not, why not joy? Thaaaaat’s right, because it’s sinful- and what does God say about homosexuality again? Yup- that’s right- that it’s an Abomination! That’s abotu as strong a condemnation of sin as you can get- So no Joy- Jesus would not bake a cake for a gay couple to celebrate their abominations together=-
His cake would say...
...”Go and sin no more”
Bingo....see #28 lol
Don’t doubt Behar on this. She’s old enough to have been around when Jesus was.
And before you answer, take a moment to think about who you would not enjoy being forced to serve or perform for.
It is not a foolish comparison. It is the same moral set of values that determines a Christian’s refusal to participate in a homo wedding with a cake as a refusal to participate in a act after the wedding with a camera.
Ummm. No it’s not. Because you wouldn’t compare baking a cake for a heterosexual couple and filming them having sex after their wedding and say it’s a valid comparison.
Just another reprobate showing her stripes.. .this is all so sad.
It is just part of the Alinsky method, “use their morality against them.” Since Joy doesn’t understand morality she isn’t smart enough to apply Alinsky properly so she ends up looking like a doofus eating soup with a fork to anyone who actually understands.
I don’t know about that. But to us He would have said, “he who is without sin cast the first stone,” and then He would have said to the “gay” couple, “Go, and sin no more.”
Liberals detest Christianity because truthfully they cannot justify their lifestyles with the Bible
Joy is the most misnamed person the planet.
Jesus would have told them to go and sin no more.
