According to all the Instagram pictures of toes stretched out on deck chairs, many people looove the summer. They bask in the bright sun, revel in the heat, and dont especially mind the sand-in-the-bathing-suit/sunscreen-in-your-eye sensations of July and August; the moment Memorial Day weekend rolls into sight, its constant watermelon, sailboats, and beach barbeques.
And then there are the rest of us.

Its hell here in Ga, in the summer, super damn humid and HOT!! I cant imagine a worse place to be. The fall and spring are perfect though... walking around naked wouldnt help you here. I can be standing in my garage just hanging out and be totally covered in sweat.. YUCK!
Ouch!
Thank you for posting this. It’s the second time this week I have had my hatred of heat and humidity affirmed! To me, walking out into the heat and the bright sun feels like walking into a fireplace.
I too, am almost giddy when October rolls around. It’s wonderful to know I am not alone.
Yup, humidity is the key. Same as in winter. Dry cold is much better. Loved Chicago. Love the winter. I’ll be heading south to NC again in a while because son and wife are there. The slower (except for young Marines in town) life and more polite life makes up for any humidity but it’s still less at the coast than farther (further?) in.
My ideal would be in the Rockies, second the desert, third the coast, last any city with pop over 100k. Improvise, adapt, overcome. :) And always take your camera.
Thank God that you don’t have to shovel three feet of snow.
Remember winter.
That’s all you need around here.
It’s so hot in Chandler this week we’ve brought the tortoise inside the house.
We had a whole week of this weather in 1990 before it hit 122. I was working outdoors at the time doing physical work. Of course, I was a lot younger then. It didn’t seem much hotter than the usual 114.
Not even close to 127, more like 119 degrees according to every weather site I’ve checked today. The all-time record is 122.
I'll have to check with my niece in Tucson to see if they've brought their tortoise in. It's been a little cooler down there but not much.
I'm not sure it helps someone with depression to tell them to snap out of it.
It is a real disease of the brain generally involving chemical imbalances, but science is still trying to figure it out further.
I've heard of people getting worse symptoms due to lack of light in the Winter months, but never the opposite.
Fascinating!
When I was a little kid I looked forward to summer as much as . . . or even more than . . . anyone. It meant three months without school and long days doing nothing but chasing grasshoppers in the yard. We were poor but I didn't have to have anything or go anywhere. I had free time and my imagination and that's all I needed.
Now things are very, very different, and for two main reasons:
1)I am disabled and my mobility is almost nil. In fact, I was just told by an orthopedist last week that both my knees need to be rebuilt, and that there's no alternative solution. This will be extremely difficult both because of my insurance situation and because the operation will be extremely dangerous for me.
2)Remember how chrstmas was the most wonderful day of the year as a little kid? It didn't matter if your folks couldn't afford to give you a lot of stuff; it was magical in and of itself. Then you grow up, you learn there's no "santa claus," and things are never the same (plus in my case there's the added factor that I stopped observing chrstimas a quarter of a century ago). This makes December 25 a very, very, very hard day, with memories of when it was so wonderful juxtaposed with it being "just another day" (only more so) today. Well . . . summer is like chrstmas for three months. I don't have the mobility to go out and enjoy life or the money to take any vacations or anything, and being disabled I'm unable to work and spend every day at home anyway. So that magical time of year has become hugely depressing, with the memories of those three wonderful months as a grasshopper-chasing kid juxtaposed with three solid months of "just another day." It's lousy.
But who knows? Maybe I'll get into the hospital sometime before the season is over and have that dangerous operation. At least that would be something.
Wow, take care.
LOL
Regarding December 25, my paternal grandparents were Christian but didn’t observe Christmas as a holiday. They were very loving, giving people though, so they found ways to take up the slack for those who did observe it.
Same with the ladies of Hadassa, being Jewish they don’t observe Christmas as a holiday but they do have a gift wrap kiosk, not for free mind you, they are raising funds for their organization. But, it’s also a very nice, convenient service and they do just an amazing, beautiful job, so speedy and proficient too. I go have them wrap my presents just because, even though it’s not particularly convenient for me anymore. Perhaps they view it as a mitzvah.
There are ways to enjoy summer that don’t involve physical activity. My elderly relatives have taught me that. Enjoyment of fresh fruits and vegetables, that’s one. Watching the birds and animals in season, too. The hours and hours of joy they’ve gotten from a simple hummingbird feeder.
God’s glory is still out there.
” (dear God, I hope it’s a woman)”
LOL. I hope so too, for your sake.
One of my female co workers stated recently that “I just don’t get the appeal of golf”. I replied what other activity do men have where you get to drive around drunk in a little cart, use unlimited foul language, drink a sh!t ton of beer and insult the manhood of your friends while ogling and overtipping a scantily clad college girl every half hour and not go to jail? All on a beautiful manicured lawn? It is like heaven on earth!
Loved your post, especially the part about shooting bottle rockets from your butt cheeks. That made me laugh. I am a little suprised me or my friends never thought of that.
Beer does truly make the summer go better!
Most of the time Winter here is a notion. I can put on enough clothes to keep warm and enjoy being outside and grateful for a warm house. It got to 9 below one morning and I didn’t think it too bad. No wind.
Summer just gets harder and harder as I get older. Dad said that too. You can only take off so many clothes! I have started the summer schedule of being out by at least 0600, work to noon or so, cocoon and read until evening then out again until at least dark. If I have to be out it had better be something important or at least productive!
All things considered I’d just as soon skip Summer and go straight to Fall!
I am so sorry about your health problems. I pray that HaShem gives you better health.
I hate when women dress immodestly during the summer.
Try using a thermometer next time, in your rear.
