Eat Fruits and Vegetables—Don't Believe The Scaremongers
Canada Free Press ^ | 05/11/17 | Jack Dini

Media stories about topics such as GMOs and pesticides may convince some consumers that it's not safe to eat certain fruits and vegetables

Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help lower calorie intake, reduce risks for heart disease, obesity and Type 2 diabetes, and protect against certain cancers.

With all these benefits, why do some consumers choose to avoid produce? Approximately three-quarters of people in the US don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.

They don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables according to what the GOVERNMENT says. My tummy AND wallet says I’m doing just fine. Who the hell can afford 9 portions of fruits and vegies a day.

why do some consumers choose to avoid produce

Because they would rather stuff their fat, undisciplined faces with greasy food, fast food, and processed food with 237 "ingredients"

There are three categories for me.

[1] Fruits high in sugar I try to avoid but I also shoot to get enough citrus for C.

[2] Starchy and sugary root vegetables I try to limit to crunchy accents to salads.

[3] Leafy vegetables and those like asparagus, Brussel sprouts and broccoli I eat to my heart’s content.

Meat, eggs and cheese I really center the meal around but the trick is to keep that protein rich food to no bigger than a deck of cards.

To do this I need three meals and a snack or four meals. I can’t stay off the carbs without this minimum.

Carbs and straight sugars are for once a month.

I eat vegetables and fruits a lot but I get sick and tired of the constant barrage of food recommendations from know-best bureaucrats, junk scientists and scare merchants.

Well you’re only supposed to be aiming at 5 a day, and you’d be surprised how small a portion actually is. Just under 3 ounces, if you hit a pound of fresh fruit and veg you’ve actually exceeded the goal. A good sized salad has you covered.

Cases of eosinophilic meningitis caused by the rat lungworm parasite have risen sharply in Hawaii over the past 5 years.

Most people we have asked do not know how they got it. It is mostly through ingestion of a slug or slug contaminated vegetables/fruits,

Why do they shy away from GMO produce? Maybe they feel reluctant to start glowing in the dark. They probably already have a night light.

It is unfortunately true that millions of Americans are obese due to excessive consumption of greasy, salty, unhealthy foods. At this point, I don't think many people can plead ignorance to the negative health impacts of such a diet. I commonly read that many people are too poor to afford healthy food, but the cost of fast food isn't very cheap at all either. Nothing wrong with treating yourself, but most people, with a lifestyle that is unprecedentedly sedentary and rich compared to most of human history (seriously, in what other era did the poor eat themselves to death?) would be better off eating less in general and what they do eat, make it something healthier than Domino's or McDonald's.

Our fellow citizens' lack of self-discipline will really come back to bite us in the collective behind if we ever need to institute a draft to defend our existence.

So what do you propose we do about all those nasty, bad-taste people, pray tell?

They say “you are what you eat” and I would rather not be a fruit or a vegetable.

What makes you think I propose to do anything? It’s a free country. If they want to stuff their faces with grease and die of heart disease at an early age, so be it.

Well, yes that’s called freedom even if they are in such poor taste as you seem to think.
