Apple is currently hard at work on a completely rethought Mac Pro, with a modular design that can accommodate high-end CPUs and big honking hot-running GPUs, and which should make it easier for Apple to update with new components on a regular basis. Theyre also working on Apple-branded pro displays to go with them.
These next-gen Mac Pros and pro displays will not ship this year. (I hope that means next year, but all Apple said was not this year.) In the meantime, Apple is today releasing meager speed-bump updates to the existing Mac Pros.

I’d be a customer for the new Mac when this one fails.
No sign of that, however...
“New pro-level iMac will be released soon”
Also new Mac Pros will be released, but not this year.
These are intended to be modular, and I’m hopeful that it’ll be possible to expand them to the point of being desk-side supercomputers with hundreds or thousands of cores available, along with many GPUs.
I’d also like to see the xMac surface, which would be a prosumer tower using i7 or Risen CPUs and high-end consumer GPUs. Apple needs to realize that the “greenest” PC is one you can upgrade...
I thought they’d just abandoned the monitor business and given it to LG?
Thanks to PIF for the heads up!

You generally have to beat Macs to death with a Mack Truck...
Apple found that LG wasn't up to meeting Apple's customer's standards. . . or Apple's quality requirements. They pulled them from the Apple Store after too many failures in the first three months, from what I hear.
Buy a Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-76YK 15.6-inch
I have the i5 cpu.
Just $550. It has a 256gb SSD (add a bigger one if you want) and room for a 2.5” hard drive plus a has a DVD drive and 1920 x 1080 display and has 8gb ram and is upgradable to 32gb if you want it.

Employee left the company and we don’t know her Apple ID. We had re-install the OS. Just got Windows 10 installed via Boot Camp. I’m turning this late 2013 Pro into my travel machine.
Good thing is the Macs purchased five years ago and still fine, so I can wait it out.

Well, that’s good to hear. I’ve always paid the freight for Apple displays, being in color critical graphics work. Wish they weren’t so pricey but I don’t need to buy them that often.
You've got that right, the only one I've ever had to "fail" actually still worked but was damaged beyond usability or repair. A titanium G4 PowerBook. My Lab got tangled in the charger cord, panicked and it was slung across the room, bouncing off walls and furniture. Bent the chassis, broke the hinges. I was able to get everything off of it, still functioned even in that state.
Just an fyi - LG monitors are still up on the Apple website.

The Mini died three years ago, they may revive it but I doubt it. Why buy a Mini when you can buy an older Mac Pro for the same money and have a real machine. The 009 Pro machines can run the latest OS if you tweak them a little. If you don't need Wifi and Bluetooth then it is really easy, else a hundred bucks for a fix.
PC people never seem to understand it is not the hardware it is the OS that keeps us in the Mac World. Sure we would like to have powerhouse machines for cheap but we don't.
I had a late 2007 iMac fail in 2014. The power supply blew, and fried the logic board. Most of my backups were in Time Machine. Non-recoverable failure.
Funny thing about Time Machine, I discovered. The only computer that can recover backups in Time Machine is the computer that made them.
Fortunately, I had stored things like my photo files on other hard drives.
Thanks for the info. They did pull them for awhile. . . LG must have addressed the issues Apple had. I generally don't go with the rumors, but this one was substantiated by the removal of the monitor. I just wasn't in the market for a 5K monitor and did not go looking again. I wonder when they returned to the Apple Store?
Menehune56, another of our knowledgable Freepers, just gave me a heads up that the LG 4k and 5k Monitors are back in the Apple Store as their preferred monitors.
