The Washington Post reported Tuesday evening https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/resistance-from-within-federal-workers-push-back-against-trump/2017/01/that there is a growing wave of opposition from the federal workers charged with implementing President Donald Trumps agenda.
What Breitbart News called the coup of the bureaucrats earlier this week is well under way, with apparent coordination by former Obama administration officials working on the outside:
(snip)
..... As former Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Tevi Troy wrote recently, in recalling challenges George W. Bush faced in confronting the bureaucracy, firing is usually not an option: Another thing we learned about early on was the lifetime tenure rulestechnically known as civil-service protections. These rules made it exceedingly difficult to fire even obstinate and uncooperative career officials. It was easier, he said, to find ways to work around particular employees and offices. He advises......
There is another option: have Congress cut the departments, or parts of them. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is looking for ways to trim spending, and President Trump has some new spending priorities, like the border wall, infrastructure, and the military.
Both would welcome opportunities to get rid of federal excess. .....

Seditious conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 2384) is a crime under United States law. It is stated as follows:
If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.
For a seditious conspiracy charge to be effected, a crime need only be planned, it need not be actually attempted. According to Andres Torres and Jose E. Velazquez, the accusation of seditious conspiracy is of political nature and was used almost exclusively against Puerto Rican independentistas in the twentieth century.[1] However, the act was also used in the twentieth century against communists and radicals (United Freedom Front,[2] the Provisional IRA in Massachusetts), neo-Nazis,[3] and Islamic terrorists including Omar Abdel-Rahman.[4] This is irrespective of the state sedition laws, used to persecute hundreds of communists, socialists and labor leaders.[5]

“Power attracts the corruptible. Absolute power attracts the absolutely corruptible. This is the danger of entrenched bureaucracy to its subject population. Even the spoils systems are preferable because levels of tolerance are lower and the corrupt can be thrown out periodically. Entrenched bureaucracy seldom can be touched short of violence. Beware when Civil Service and Military join hands.”
Frank Herbert
That coup took place a long time ago when the civil service was passed. It’s time for a counter coup.
Every failed nation and civilization has one thing in common: An entrenched bureaucracy that prevented it from adapting.
Can’t fire them, they have their civil service rights
Please eliminate Department of Education, and Energy.
And take a hatchet to EPA.
Trump really needs somebody like Bolton as assistant SoS to crack the whip on these traitors since Tillerson will be busy with the macro stuff.
You’re fired.
Cut, cut, cut.
fire them, let them tie themselves up in court over it.
More idiots who think they are ten foot tall and bulletproof.......
So did the ATC’s.
Look where iyt got them!...
Get rid of this so-called *tenure* law while we have control of Congress. Otherwise, we are making mediocrity permanent.
Great idea and location, but the job assignment is wrong.
Have them study Globul Warming since they all believe in it...:^)
OK, dont fire them, just enlarge the White House grounds keeping office, the DC street cleaning staff and other worthwhile jobs.
>>> Get rid of this so-called *tenure* law while we have control of Congress.
It used to be that government jobs get paid less than in the private sector, not talking about other benefits.
In order to attract the young and brilliant minds for public service, there are these incentives ...... When has it been that case, now?
This (’eliminating tenure rules’) will be even harder than the term-limit, imo.
Repeal the Civil Service Act. Restore the spoils system. As bad as it was, at least the spoiuls sytem flushed the bastages out periodically.
Decades ago I ran into problems with a career GS working under me in base supply. She was spending tens of thousands of dollars quarterly through her ordering process.
After refusing to either follow my orders or educate me as to why things shouldn’t change I decided that she to change her ways or leave.
I started by removing some of the “special” identifiers that made her the only person qualified for the job - something totally within my authority. After she lost two such identifiers my assistant, also a GS, told her to either get in line or start looking for a new job.
About a year later my supply division got a cash reward for saving money - I split between the staff in that work center (4 people). Her cut was the smallest.
Didn’t have too many problems with her for the next 18 months.
It’s not efficient nor effective. I don’t think Trump is leery of anything that might be difficult. It needs to be done!
