I regret to inform our FReeper family that BlackELk passed away from a combination of numerous chronic conditions and a head trauma.
Black Elk passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017. Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. Working and praying on behalf of the unborn and those who challenged the abortion industry was his life's vocation, as an attorney he represented and won the acquittal of over 700 pro-life rescuers. He wanted to be remembered for that.
He GREATLY appreciated FReepers' prayers last time, and though he was comatose at the end, Mrs. Elk conveyed your prayers and wishes for him verbally. Only he and God know right now the benefit he (and all of us) received from prayers on his behalf.
As a practical Roman Catholic, he would request prayers for his soul by those who are disposed to do so.
As a husband and father, he would like prayers for the souls and well-being of his wife and three grown daughters.
While BlackElk was generally not in great pain, he was in ongoing discomfort. He made it clear that he was ready to go when God was ready for him, but not sooner.
He did have family in the hospital, and received traditional Last Rites (Extreme Unction, Sacrament of the Sick). He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and is still wearing his brown scapular. The Funeral Mass is at St. Mary Oratory in Rockford, Illinois on Wednesday at 2PM CST.
When BlackElk was a very young child, he almost drowned and had a near death experience. He heard a voice tell him that it was not yet his time, and that he had a mission that he will not be told until his death. He now knows if he completed his mission.
As a good friend of mine said, "He will make Heaven a more colorful place."
He requested that his tombstone read "Not available." but Mrs. Elk is inclined to assume that he was speaking in jest, so she will not be following through.
BlackElk was only one-quarter Irish, but it is what he always identified with, despite being a near-teetotaler. He shared the Irish attitude of laughing at funerals, to celebrate being with this veil of tears; for him it is time for him to accept God's Justice, but request His Mercy.
May God have Mercy on him and his family, and may he rest in peace.
He is already missed.
God Bless all of you great FReepers!
Yeah, that’s a shame the not knowing.
Did he invent anything cool?
God,I just scrolled through about 20 of then and they were all born AFTER me——the clock is ticking.
.
I don’t know if he got anything patented. It seemed like he was full of innovative ideas that would be of the kind many big businesses would go to lengths to try to stop (think along the lines of inventing a car engine that could get 100 miles to the gallon). I’m struggling to recall what it was he did invent in particular (I’d have to go hunt back for the posts or FReepmails, perhaps from a decade ago).
will be missed.....another great freeper gone to heaven...
Ah, don’t fret. If you still have your health, go out there and live. I’m sure the “youngsters” since passed would all give you that advice if they could. Look at President Trump, after all !
Rest in Peace, Black Elk. Prayers for your soul and comfort for your family.
Thanks for telling us. He was a member of the Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee, 2010-’11. He’s the third ICRC SC member, who died.
Prayers for Black Elk and his loved ones.
This must have been posted while I was not terribly active on FR, for I only found it when inquiring about Black Elk. I knew him only from FR, but I regarded him a spiritual giant. From his bio, I guess I was right. May he quickly reach the beatific vision.
Nooooo. I loved BlackElk. We used to fight shoulder to shoulder against the FReeper hordes that would attack Generalissimo Franco. He would always hold the center with his giant wit. I have been off FR for a while and came back to research President Trumps SCOTUS pick and I went to look my old compatriot up. RIP friend. May you have had many conversations with Franco
Well I Have been away a while. Requiescat In Pace, BlackElk. Our loss, His gain.
