I regret to inform our FReeper family that BlackELk passed away from a combination of numerous chronic conditions and a head trauma.
Black Elk passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017. Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. Working and praying on behalf of the unborn and those who challenged the abortion industry was his life's vocation, as an attorney he represented and won the acquittal of over 700 pro-life rescuers. He wanted to be remembered for that.
He GREATLY appreciated FReepers' prayers last time, and though he was comatose at the end, Mrs. Elk conveyed your prayers and wishes for him verbally. Only he and God know right now the benefit he (and all of us) received from prayers on his behalf.
As a practical Roman Catholic, he would request prayers for his soul by those who are disposed to do so.
As a husband and father, he would like prayers for the souls and well-being of his wife and three grown daughters.
While BlackElk was generally not in great pain, he was in ongoing discomfort. He made it clear that he was ready to go when God was ready for him, but not sooner.
He did have family in the hospital, and received traditional Last Rites (Extreme Unction, Sacrament of the Sick). He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and is still wearing his brown scapular. The Funeral Mass is at St. Mary Oratory in Rockford, Illinois on Wednesday at 2PM CST.
When BlackElk was a very young child, he almost drowned and had a near death experience. He heard a voice tell him that it was not yet his time, and that he had a mission that he will not be told until his death. He now knows if he completed his mission.
As a good friend of mine said, "He will make Heaven a more colorful place."
He requested that his tombstone read "Not available." but Mrs. Elk is inclined to assume that he was speaking in jest, so she will not be following through.
BlackElk was only one-quarter Irish, but it is what he always identified with, despite being a near-teetotaler. He shared the Irish attitude of laughing at funerals, to celebrate being with this veil of tears; for him it is time for him to accept God's Justice, but request His Mercy.
May God have Mercy on him and his family, and may he rest in peace.
He is already missed.
God Bless all of you great FReepers!
Ditto.
Prayers for him and for his family. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
I will miss my friend.
Our loss, heaven’s gain....
I held out hope he’d survive this latest setback, but that was not to be. Seeing the news of his passing felt like a punch to the gut. :-(
BlackElk was certainly one of the few individuals I’ve come across in life who could be described as a “great man.” His unapologetic defense of the unborn being one of those that defined him as a person. Another was fighting to keep the Republican Party from following the Democrats down the path to utter moral depravity as the powerful globalist elites desired.
FR will be emptier without his presence and contributions.
Our loss is heaven’s gain, and he certainly earned his wings.
My sincerest and deepest condolences to his family and close friends. May he indeed rest in peace.
Prayers up for family and friends ...
RIP
Prayers out for family and friends.
Please pass on the assurance of prayers from a fellow Latin Mass Catholic to Black Elk's family. It is good of you to inform us of his passing, thank you.
Praying for his family.
So sorry to hear this. Prayers for the family.
RIP.
Sad to hear it. Prayers for his family.
in my prayers
Prayers up for BlackElk and his family. Surely his passage through Purgatory was perfunctory and he already has joined our Holy Father in Heaven.
I was so sad to read this last night, immediately before my internet shut down and I couldn’t comment. May Black Elk’s soul rest in eternal peace, and his family find comfort until they meet again by the good grace of God.
Oh man. :( RIP.
At least he lived to see America delivered from Hillary Clinton.
I’m so sorry. Prayers for his family and loved ones.
May his soul rest in peace.
God bless.
Thanks to JimRob for adding our dear friend, BlackElk, to the Free Republic Memorial Wall.

I recognize a few screennames of people that I didn’t know had passed away.
Good thing that loved ones were in touch and informed FR.
Yes. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case with some members who simply vanished into the ether. I used to talk to this older fella from Montana who was an inventor and he would tell me he didn’t think he had long (although nothing an older person might not say) and after a time, he just wasn’t around anymore. No way to know if he passed away or what.
