A Georgia gun store owner fought back against two armed suspects who attempted to rob his business Monday morning.
One suspect was left dead and the second remains at large, local media reported, but authorities are hopeful surveillance video that captured the attempted robbery will help them to identify the second suspect.
The owner of Dixie Gun and Pawn had just opened the shop with an employee when the two suspects entered wearing ski masks and armed with guns. Fearing for his safety, the shop owner pulled out his own gun and fired at the suspects, striking one and sending the other fleeing.
The injured suspect collapsed inside the store, while the second suspect drove away in a silver Dodge Magnum, leaving his wounded accomplice behind.
The injured suspect, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. The shop owner, the employee and two customers who were in the business at the time of the incident were not injured.
Authorities took statements from the shop owner, the employee and the customers, who all corroborated the account of what happened. The shop owner told reporters off-camera he felt he had no choice but to fire at the suspects.
Most agree the shop owners actions were justified, while others were left wondering what the suspects were thinking trying to rob a gun shop in the first place.
Its just amazing to see someone try to come into a gun store to rob a gun store. I mean, that was a really un-thought-out plan, said customer Terrance Coner while shaking his head.
But Bill Bloedow, who is friends with the shop owner, said crime is high in the area.
I hope it puts the fear in people going around trying to do this stuff, there is too much crime in this area, Bloedow said.
Another friend, Victor Harris said the shop owner is very shaken up over the shooting.
Hes just trying to make a living. Thats all hes doing, and these guys come in and try to rob you and take your money and your guns, Harris said, as he expressed sympathy for the shop owner and dead suspect alike.
Stupid should hurt. It’s better for everyone that way.
From what I gather through news stories such as this one, it seems citizens are hitting their intended targets at about 90%+, while law enforcement is substantially less than this.
Amazing how knowing that you will be held responsible for, and can be sued for every shot, makes your accuracy improve. Just something I find interesting.
He missed.
He missed.
That's not to mention any legitimate customers. Wasn't there a robbery attempt that failed because one or more of the gun shop customers were armed, maybe half a dozen years ago?
What’s next? A mass shooting at a gun show?
Old Mizzou or Dartmouth has, well, had, first dibs on the guy.
And a TV news reporterette will ask "Well, why did the shop owner have to kill him? Couldn't he have just shot the gun out of his hand?"
Actually, most of the ones I’ve been in here in Georgia, they ask that customers have the weapons checked at the counter as a precaution.
This reminds me of a funny story. I was at a Cobb County gun show years ago and they had police at the door that zip-tied all the customer guns to make sure there weren’t any accidents waiting to happen. I was standing at a table with a younger man and his wife and they were admiring a gun and she grabs in her little bitty purse and pulls out this big damn revolver and says, “baby, is that one bigger than mine?”........ I had to laugh as he was trying to get her to cram that back into her little clutch....... :0)
Well, if you're going to rob a gun store, you pretty much have to come into the gun store to do it.
South Park robbery plan:
1. Enter a gun store to rob it.
2. ?
3. Profit.
I recall another attempted gun store robbery story from years ago.
The perp was caught on video walking past several marked police cars on his way to the door. He walked up to the counter, where two police officers in uniform were talking with a store employee. He pulled a gun on another store employee, saying, basically, ‘your money or your life!’.
The coroner pulled bullets from his body that came from seven different guns.
The same thing would happen at a lot of Texas diners. (or my church, LoL).
That's kinda hard considering she's got 7 others from 5 daddies.
Shortly after Trump becomes president, our military men and women will be armed here in America. That will stop any Islamic Jihadist quickly if they try to do what has been done in the past.
Sucks to be her.
If there was a mass shooting at a gun show, it would be mostly from friendly fire I’m afraid. You would have 50 vendors all taking a bead on one dude.
I am joking obviously. You know that all guns at gun shows are zip-tied with those plastic ties so nobody can walk up and load a round in one of the guns on a table, so in fact, if a mass shooter could get past the cops at the door, he would have a building full of disarmed people.
Good luck getting past the cops with a loaded gun though. I mean THAT’S WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. Everybody gets asked if they have a gun and the cops insist on seeing it. You would have to be a crazy good liar and cool as a cucumber to get past the cops at the door to a gun show. Could be done I guess.
Hmmmm. Phenomenally BAD idea. :)
LOL!
On second thought, she would have been better off if she’d done that instead of...well, never mind.
