This 18 month long and polarizing American election has been truly surreal+absurd.
One of the truly strange effects of this election is that certain of my female friendships that had endured for decades—through good times and bad times; through career highs and career failures; through personal disappointment;through joy, happiness and the thrill of victory and personal achievement; through marriages, children, divorce, sickness and even death of loved ones or partners; basically, through life- the good, the very bad and the truly ugly—could not withstand this friggin’ election.
My Dad’s side of the family is very bizarre. They are all card carrying liberals. Anyone to the right of Jimmy Carter is “right wing” in their minds. Every last one of them. They also, almost to a man/woman hate cats. It is just weird to me the lack of diversity of ideas. I bring up the cats because it is almost like some patriarch decided he hated cats, and everyone else fell into line.
I do not have close Democratic women friends. I have unfriended several nasty Democrat women extended family members. They are also not welcome in my home anymore. It’s been cathartic eliminating these stupid, ignorant and intolerant females from my life.
I wrote a niece out of my will. It was a $250,000 error on her part to call me a fascist.
I am adoptable and will never call you a fascist?
It’s all groupthink, and groupthink is dangerous.
BTW, she’s a pediatrician. Is it just me or are the ranks of the medical profession weighted to the progressive side?

A female pediatrician is probably right up there with elementary school teacher when it comes to politics.

I have taken the opposite stance. If you are #NeverTrump, liberal OR establishment, yer gone.
I lost a friend after putting him straight on Sandy Hook.
He started on about the evil of guns, and I kicked off about gun-free zones and about how Liberals had blood on their hands for setting up a killing ground.
To his credit he’s reaching out again. We’ll see how it goes.

My husband lost a few friends on facebook during the election process, mostly the last week before and a couple of weeks after the election. The majority of them were women.
They are just the opposite: among the most intolerant group that one can find. We have seen the same thing as per social media reactions. I suspect these virtually programmed libs will eventually have to be called out for politically enabling human trafficking of of kids (via their elites) before they begin to come to grips with reality and practice some discernment.
I alerted my friends and family that I will delete my FB account on Jan 2. I mostly use it for business and I do not argue politics there because most in my did are lefties. I won’t miss it a bit...Bunch of people looking for attention. And I agree about the data collection ... everything I gave them was false anyway.
I’m going thru that with 2 of my 3 adult children. The third put a post on Facebook before the election that he would NOT be intimidated (by his ‘Friends’ and siblings) into voting for HRC, then went on a rant about her and Obama, admitting that he’d voted for Obama twice. At least one of mine has grown up politically.

Good for you! These wimps need to be on the receiving end of lessons for a change. Thy need to learn that America is not a Marxist country. We are coming back from the brink of perdition.
Worse is mandatory collective identity, you are not a person but only a member of X group.
It is an ideology that demands bigotry because it assigns people to various groups based on demographics and then, the true racism/sexism shows up with cultural appropriation, that you are bad for not adhering to the dress, behavior and attitudes approved for your group.
