Officials said a pair of the robbers found the yoga instructor in her bedroom. Despite them hitting her in the head with a gun and trying to tie her up, she was able to get free and grab a revolver hidden beneath her pillow. The Dallas News reports misses some interesting details. The Yoga instructor owned two Taurus .38 Special revolvers, one of which she kept under her pillow. It is likely the revolver used was a six or seven shot model. Both are popular and common. The robber killed in her bedroom was shot five times. The robber found outside the home was shot at least once. She probably emptied her Taurus. This is a google translation:
Khalsa shot the two men, killing one instantly. The other, badly wounded, died in the yard after running outside. Neither man has been identified.
The two other robbers ran off.
Soto added that one of the two antisocials received five shots in his body, falling dejected in the same place, whereas the second subject, was badly wounded and ended up prostrate and passing away in the patio of the property. Meanwhile, his two other accomplices who were in the kitchen and were preparing to steal, hearing the shots fled quickly without achieving their purpose. Until this morning, the two deceased delinquents were still not identified and according to the persecutor, in the case the grounds exist to estimate that the teacher acted in self-defense. "The .38 Special was sufficiently powerful. In spite of the somewhat mangled translation, it appears that Hari Nam Kaur Khalsa will not be charged.

The lack of bars on the windows and door show this area, about 20 miles north of Santiago, has been fairly crime free. A wall surrounds the property.
A wall is common practice for most well to do estates throughout the world. It would be common in the United States, but is banned by most zoning codes. The estate appears to be several acres. The picture is taken from a video of the school made in 2009. The gate to the property is directly behind the camera.

A revolver under the pillow is a technique with a long tradition. A few stories have been written of people accidentally shooting themselves because of the practice. Some have claimed a befuddled person picked up the firearm instead of a telephone, then shot themselves in the head while fumbling with the gun. I am skeptical of such accounts. How do you differentiate such a situation from a normal suicide, which happen thousands of time a year?
To prevent accidental discharges, the firearm can be kept holstered. This requires a little more thinking, and slows access very little.

Dudes were quick learners. They mastered shavasana on the first attempt.
Been practicing your Aikido moves, eh? Grab a handful and GIT SOME!
I keep the .357 under the sofa-the .38 is the one that goes anywhere I am-the very first morning I moved here I was working at the computer when the former tenant of this property kicked in the door and started in my direction making threats. I’d already been told by a neighbor that the guy was a meth cooker/dealer, and I had the .38 on my desk-I pointed it at him, told him to GTFO, and my Husky stood up and snarled-it was enough-he left very quickly.
You’d hit each & every yoga pose.
LAZ.....!!!!
;^)
i have a taurus .44 magnum 4” ported barrel. great gun.
Mrs L carries a Ruger SP-101 loaded with +P .38 Spl ammunition. Anything more powerful is just wasted powder in a 2” barrel. But it will do the job.
L
or the taurus 44 magnum 4” ported barrel. makes nice big holes in paper.
“Khalsa = Sikh
tough folks”
Kaur = Lioness
All SIkh women bear this in their name as do the men with Singh = Lion.
Any apparent contradiction may be sorted out in the details.
Normally the areas we lived were fairly quiet but we still kept our guns within reach.
There is almost NO hunting in Chile so any firearms are strictly self defense.
Those are the 26 Bikram yoga asanas. Bikram is practiced in a room heated to 105 degrees, and each session is 1.5 hours. Bring two towels and a jug of water and prepare to get STRONG! She’s awesome!
I shot one of those a couple months back with regular .357 rounds. Rather stout, old boy. I'd have to really dislike someone to enjoy shooting that stuff in that gun. I think I put some Winchester 145 gr. Silvertips through it. Surplus ammo from the West Virginia State Police. Ouch. But it might have been a 3" barrel. :)
20 miles/30 km north of Santiago puts you in farm and orchard country. Haven't been there in a long time but rural Chile generally didn't used to be bad - lock your rental car but don't worry too much about walking around town, at least in daytime. Think suburban Yakima, WA in terms of climate and population density.
Any detached house in Chile is likely to have a wall - with broken glass embedded in the top. Guns are hard to come by. I believe semi-automatics and military calibers are prohibited.
the first wall i saw in that configuration of glass on the top was the dupont estate on rt 141 as a kid. my understanding of the powder works there was the mangers houses were built in front of the bunkers facing the factory. safety was a big deal at dupont.
If you missed, I'd come out there and smack you.
I carry a Lady Smith snub nosed 38 in a holster. I used to have a Taurus snub nosed .38 but sold it since I like the Lady Smith better.
I agree. They’re a great woman’s gun.
Wife has a LCR in 38 cal. Likes the DA trigger better than a few others she tried.
I’m an anxious wreck. Always been randy so I did boxing in my late teens and twenties.
Don’t you have to be a calm person to do Yoga?
They didn’t sound like very good robbers. Doubt they had much!!
The young mobsters I knew growing up with at least put some effort into it. Scouting, planning. These guys were bozos.
What they were doing was wrong but being as I wanted to live past 25 and didn’t trust the police, I kept my mouth shut.
