We all have heard the saying, dont bring a knife to a gun fight. Well what if youre in that predicament that you and a bad guy are in that mano mano, face-to-face situation. Bad guy pulls a knife out, youre able to pull your pistol out, but due to the close quarter distance you're both in a stalemate position. What are some options now for those "in your face" situation.
Enter Jared Wihongi of Black Label Tactical, he is a 16 year Law Enforcement Officer with 13 years as a SWAT operator. Wihongi demonstrates in this video some basic tactics to get an upper hand so you can come out on top. He teaches a simple pragmatic approach that can supplement your gun fighting skills. See the footage here.
I have always had an innate fear of edged weapons in the hands of someone I do not trust. I also have acquired a large number.
In one Roman battle, something like 100,000 men died. Edged weapons can most certainly be lethal.
Shoot the SOB before he gets in lunging range (that’s his height plus 1/2). Case solved.
5 rules of a gun fight:
1) gun beats no gun
2) fast beats slow
3) a hit beats a miss
4) big holes beat little holes
5) two holes beat one hole

Way to see your intestines all over the ground.
COOOL ... I want one ...
A modern cutlass?
Would make drawing the weapon rather interesting.
OMG!!! Is that a fully automatic assault knife!!!
Running to my safe space to play with my Therapy dog....
I’m having a heck of a time finding a good IWB holster!
For what gun? I have two. One for a Ruger LCS9 and one for a Ruger SR9. Both are comfortable and work really well.
Re: #5 & #10 (joking)
I’ve heard from cops that they’re more leery of an unpredictable suspect with a knife than one with a gun, within closing distance. There are more ways to disrupt a gun than a knife.
call me old and foolish, but I still prefer a simple piece of leather for a holster.
But then there isn’t a single modern auto that I would buy right now.
They seem to all have a version of the Glock ‘Safe Action’ trigger WHICH I HATE! but I refer back to the first line of this post.
I would rather have a pistol but there are all manner of ancient warriors I would never mess with even with a pistol.
To old for that. Just keep your head on a swivel and quick access to a pistol with a caliber that begins in .4
Edged weapon lethality.
It’s zero at 20 feet, and that is my intrusion limit.
I suppose they are not used any more but I used to throw the javelin competitively. I could go just under 200 feet which is a hundred feet less than a world class thrower but still at 20 feet I could easily kill someone.
Actually the ones used in competition are too heavy imo. About half that weight would be deadly.
All of the martial arts videos I've watched show the instructor demonstrate well-choreographed moves against an un-resisting opponent.
