Nikki Haley may have been born in the United States but her extended family back in India is thrilled that the South Carolina governor has been named by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as ambassador to the United Nations.
Haley's parents hail from rural Punjab, in northwestern India. They moved to Amritsar - home to the Golden Temple that is the most holy place of the Sikh religion - before emigrating to North America in the early 1960s.
Haley, 44, was born Nimrata Randhawa in Bamberg, South Carolina - she was called "Nikki" as a child and took the family name of husband Michael when they married in Sikh and Methodist ceremonies in 1996.
Kanwaljit Singh Randhawa, a 70-year-old cousin, told Reuters family and friends were delighted by Haley's appointment and said it could help improve relations between the United States and India...

Well, it seems you have a new SC governor, McMaster, of an old SC family.
But most are somewhere between Nigerian and Swedish.
That Trump is a diabolical scoundrel, and on our side. I love it.
Asian Indians are Caucasian.
There’s a reason what we speak on FR is part of the Indo-European language family...
Thanks for the post; link (to many good articles). BUMP!
Beautiful woman
I notice the scratch-off is gone from her forehead. I wonder if her husband won a Days Inn or a Seven-Eleven on their wedding night?
Many Indian languages aren’t Indo-European actually.
The predominant languages of Southern India are all Dravidian, the pre-Aryan languages of India, not at all related to European tongues, other than through borrowings.
Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, etc.
These are the native languages of a great number of recent Indian immigrants and H1bs.
Haley converted to Christianity in 1997. She is Methodist, like Hillary.
Interestingly, there is a strong correlation of IQ with dark skin among Indians. Its the dark southerners, such as the Tamils, that produce most of the geniuses. Tamils are quite a capable lot.
India’s silicon valley is around Bangalore, in the south. Southern India is substantially richer than most of the north.

I think it is a North/South thing. And frankly, Indian racism follows. The elites are lighter and disdain the darkers. The lower the caste, the darker the skin.
We’ll see if he has a clue.
Looks like a Frat Rat good ol’ boy to me.
Plantation economics don’t work. He has BMW and Boeing there now, he needs to bring more of that.
India is a diverse place. The really dark people down south arent so caste-driven and dark <> low status.
India has over 1000 different languages. Thank god for British Colonialism because at least it gave Indians a common language they could speak to each other with.

I have worked with a lot of Indians. What passes for “English” is frequently unintelligible — apparently even between Indians.

Probably not like hiLIARy. I don’t think most normnal Methodists worship Satan.
;)
Good one!
Ditto on the difficulties of Indian English!
But you do get used to it.
