In years past they falsified for Southern whites, today they falsify against any traditional values, but it's all still just Democrats doing what Democrats by nature do: telling lies. Yep, and the FreeRepublic contingent does their best to do their part.

wgmalabama:
"The south haters will be on you like flies on you know." There are no "South haters" on Free Republic, none.
But there are innumerable North haters who put inordinate efforts into telling lies about the Civil War.
And they don't care what lies they tell, just so long as it makes the North look bad and Confederates look noble.
We're only here to keep the historical record straight, regardless of what nonsense North-hating pro-Confederates spread.

Ok, this is probably just me. But does anyone notice that a thread about civil war writings has almost hit 700 posts?

"Funny. What a crock of shit." Naw, you're just fantasizing & projecting your own inner soul onto others.
In fact, nobody here "hates the South" because most have lived in the South, have family & friends there and many fond memories.
Some of us will retire to the South, other look for opportunities there, many follow religious or political leaders in the South.
So nobody here "hates the South".
What we do hate are lies a few Southerners tell about their own and our history, especially regarding the Civil War.

If you ever get near my area halfway between Antietam and Gettysburg, my husband would be glad to give you a tour of the area and take you to both battlefields.
He once told my nephew while in high school to write about the Battle of Funkstown and the “teacher” gave an F on the paper stating a made up story. After research the teacher changed it to an A+, she had never heard of the battle. What great history teachers we have!!!

I’m in California, but when I plan another trip out East I will get hold of you during the planning stages. Nothing can beat a tour by a knowledgeable Freeper!

Guelzo has a book specifically on the Lincoln -Douglas debates which were occurring exactly one hundred sixty years ago this month.

It ended in September 2015 and was a day by day history offset by seventy years. Mostly the NYT microfilm archive of the six years.

I think you have that confused. The USS Merrimack burned and was rebuilt as the CSS Virginia.

"The only way the North could stop this was to stop Southern independence, and for that they needed a war." and a president who did not mind turning the US Constitution on its ear criminally.

Jack Hinson: One man war A very good read. Sobering and tragic. So much irony.
Would not be surprised if a movie comes out of it.
