In an October 29th speech to a small gathering, Publius Huldah discussed her perceptions of the dangers posed by an Article V Convention of the States to propose Constitutional amendments. After viewing the entire talk, I understand why the leading figures of the Convention of States movement (COS) havent responded in depth to her various accusations. Her conclusions are often at the fringes of reason and she carries a deep and personal animosity to the leaders of the COS. Since the COS leadership choose not to address most of her accusations, please allow me, your humble blogger, to take up the mission.
On the bright side, I am better acquainted with the usual talking points of COS opponents which Ive read in endless repetition at conservative websites. If her arguments are swallowed whole, without knowledge of certain points in our history and tradition, the hostility of her adherents is perfectly logical. Publius Huldahs impact is significant for those who rely on her views and nothing else. Do not underestimate her influence. Ms. Huldah admonishes her followers to:
View COS supporters as conspiratorial enemies.
Just obey the Constitution as written.
Restore morality.
Support state nullification of federal laws, regulations, and scotus decisions.
Mix her talking points, let them ferment, and Ms. Huldah presents a powerful and heady brew against an Article V convention of the states. The foundation of her argument is a conspiracy in which nefarious groups, foreign and domestic, work toward our demise. The means to their ends is the Article V state amendments convention. Since COS supports an Article V convention, its leaders must be part of the scheme, and the many thousands of COS volunteers are simply ignorant dupes.

When the time comes for it we’ll know.
Done! To Publius, please add Wneighbor to the ping list.
I answered that in my blog post.
Mark Levin kick started the COS movement. If we are successful, Obama will be the last “pen and phone” president, and it will be due in no small part to Levin.
Done!
A good start. I suggest the repeal of the 16th amendment include the prohibitation of any form of income taxation. Additionally, the congressional authority to write tax law must be removed. A clause allowing congress to write tax law in a national emergency could be included but a check upon them must also be included as well as a sunset provision. Say 2/3 to 3/4 of the states must approve the resulting legislation. The sunset provision could be two years or so. There are a number of changes to the constitution needed to remove power from the federal government and state governments and return the power to the peopl. Our leaders are not virtuous enough to wield the power authorized them by the constitution.
Thanks, Jacquerie. Very interesting. BUMP!
Standby for a bumpy ride!
CoS is meeting legislators at the Texas Capitol day after tomorrow. I am using many of your comments on this thread and links you’ve provided to other things in my preparations. MANY THANKS to you!
You’re welcome! Glad the links are helpful. Sock it to the legislators! Maybe give them a copy of the links as a footnote.
I have actually hand written 6 pages of facts, information and examples gleaned from FR and the Article V blog. This is a statewide effort of Texas CoS and they’ve also provided 6 pages of talking points that I’ve studied. I’m hoping we have a Yuge amount of folks showing up. I’ve heard from both the state coordinator and my area coordinator and have the time and place to meet :)
My state Senator co-authored a bill in the last session for an Article V convention so he’s on board. My state rep is going to be my main target. I don’t know where he stands but he is conservative in his record. In my mind it’s possible that other conservatives just aren’t aware of what an Article V convention is and how it is needed. That’s where I was 2 months ago. So, my plan is to speak with my Representative as though that’s the case.
I’ve used variations of form letters to email my Senator and Rep in the past month but now that I’ve done so much “homework,” I also intend to take my 6 pages of important notes and write up more informational letters to my Representative. Since I was so unaware until Nov 9, I am late getting into the game here but am also hoping to learn more from the people I meet on Tuesday who have been active with Texas CoS much longer than me. Thank you for all the links you’ve given me. I’m still not through the videos but going to keep chugging along :)
