Vanity: Who Won the Debate and Why (Not who You Wished Won) and Where Did Trump Miss
Self ^ | 10/20/16 | Jim Newell

Why do you think Trump won or not.

Where exactly did Trump land an effective blow and where did he miss some golden opportunities.

Good one. Looks like Trump’s strategy was to be calm even if it meant missing landing a few direct hits like taking full advantage of Hillary’s Russia comments. Hope that was a good strategy. Probably was.

Trump did well overall. Hillary spilled out the same thing all democrats do on the economy, that Trump just wants to cut taxes for the rich and it’s going to cause a big deficit and hurt the middle-class, yada yada yada. Although he did answer, I think he could have gone into more detail about how his plan helps middle-class in terms that low info people would understand.
And when she talks about all these jobs she’s going to create, I would have pointed out that the government doesn’t create private jobs, people and businesses do, government just has to not create a hostile environment.

This thread wasn’t posted in the Religion forum so I won’t comment on your comment.

Yeah I think sales of Tums were up before and after each “debate”.

I thought it was mostly a draw, Trump did a little bit better. I don’t believe anyone watching the debate switch sides because of it. It all comes down to if you OK with the way things are now or think we need a change going forward.

You think Trump was better in this debate than the last one where he hit a home run with his “You’d be in jail” answer? That one was hard to beat.

Too bad Trump didn’t mention that she was fighting aids in Africa with watered down drugs, lol.

Agreed. The debate was boring. Trump is a debate fumbler who gets dragged in to the personal stuff too easily and misses too many opportunities. For example, the borders were brought up and when Trump didn’t say what the Wiki-Leaks revealed about her being for completely open borders...I thought to myself, why is this guy so slow on his feet? Why doesn’t he have his “big guns” ready to fire? Half the time he was straying from the topic at hand to go back and visit something already discussed.

Everyone here is into his “zinger” impulse, which is good, I guess. But he misses too many substantive points. Just a terrible debater. Actually painful to listen to.

The only way an undecided would break for Hillary at this point if if they were convinced by the MSM post-debate spin that her robotic, lying performance somehow made her look Presidential.

Let's face it - a lot of people vote for looks and delivery and will probably stay home because nobody "pretty" is running this time. Dems have Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris in the bullpen for 2020 for just that reason. We've only got Rubio. :)

I’m surprised someone’s asking me my opinion since I’m always gushing out my opinions on stuff.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch the proceedings last night. Watched the NLCS instead. So I wanted to see what others thought, to see if I could watch it later without gagging. And I thought this might be an interesting discussion.

I can't believe this. I was shocked at the self-serving nitpicking done in the debate thread last night. And now, just to give more grist to the I-could-have-done-better crowd's mill, there is a thread started just for the purpose of bashing Trump.

Hell, I may as well as turned on the news.

Here we finally had a candidate take it to the corruption in the system and top it off with laying bare the horrors of late term abortion.... and now we have to have an abortion of a thread with more criticism of the man under the guise of open analysis. Please.

90 minutes is not much time to cover hillary’s vast left wing criminally.

For all who understand the underlying premise of the Declaration of Independence--that our rights, as individuals, are inalienable precisely, and only, because they are endowed by the Creator--then, Trump's question which elicited exposure of Clinton's unequivocal commitment to the 20th Century "progressive" notion of destroying the life and liberty of children in the womb makes him the winner.

In America, our constitutional protections rest on the Founders' premise that each and all individuals are "endowed by their Creator" with the unalienable right to both life and the liberty to enjoy it, or, in their words, "the pursuit of happiness."

The sole reason these rights were deemed unalienable is that both are derived from the Creator--not from the mother or father, and not from government or judicial decision. What is "granted" by human decision also can, by implication, be withheld.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them (life and liberty)," said Thomas Jefferson.

"The world is different now. . . and yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forefathers fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God." - John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address

That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and every protection of our Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life and liberty, of laws to protect them, and it distinguishes ours from other forms of government.

When we fail to acknowledge that foundation of our liberty, then we risk liberty itself for future generations, for where does the right to choose who lives and who does not really end?

That is why the question is of vital importance in each election. Already, we have deprived millions of their Creator-endowed rights to life and liberty, and our nation must be weaker for their loss. We need leaders who understand the implications and potential consequences of departing from our founding principles.

In recent decades, technological advances have enabled us to observe the characteristics and actions of God's tiniest creations in the womb. Unlike previous generations who could not see, we have no excuse for imagining that these are mere blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." In their early weeks, we now can see that they are living babies who will continue on to possess life and liberty if we do not "destroy" both. Indeed, they are simply smaller versions of ourselves.

Clinton's clever semantic maneuver which conflates "women's health" with the death of a viable and distinct "other" masks an agenda that is not consistent with the underlying principles of the Framers' Constitutional protections for liberty.

If he loves a good scrap, he should come with more facts and rejoinders. What did Trump say last night that you haven’t heard before?

Hillary keeps talking about the Muslim Honor mom and dad, but he doesn’t counter with her lying to the mothers and fathers of the dead of Benghazi. There are some things that should just roll out of his mouth to put her in her place. I honestly believe he does not prepare for these debates.

Way to go Cubbies but I think they’re in for it Saturday and Sunday against the Dodgers Dynamic Duo (Kershaw and Hill).
