Ok.. no idea if this is just me...
I am 'wordless'/speechless.. we may be seeing the world collapse in in our lifetime.. I HOPE that this was just a hikkup, but, like I said... I've never seen this happen before.. and I've been on computers since 1980, and I also warned about this type of situation before DOS was even around.
Anyway.. I want to know how to keep in contact, ot at least be able to have/read communication with news events if this gts any worse.. I don't have HAM license not a HAM radio..
If a brief connection glitch makes you think the world is ending, you might be a little too attached to the internet
Apple and Microsoft both just pushed some updates that are a bit glitchy. Don’t think it is a conspiracy, just think the code bases are getting so complex that patching them is less than perfect.
This.
Buy a short wave radio, get a ham license and get a life.
so all those Microsoft updates I’ve been getting the past few days aren’t because of the change of the internet? Serious question.
Don’t forget to get a case of flares too.
Not the end of the world... just a ‘glitch’ in communication...
If you thought that was bad just wait until your you get stuned by a beeberlike device.
Would love to get a HAM license.. but difficult here in Japan (in English) ;/
Two things : The internet doesn’t work like that. Performance issues happen all the time. ALL THE TIME.
If your local trunk is affected then that effect seems to be more “real” to you. Working in Telecom I can say two things with definitive resolve:
1. You and half of our country is so on the edge that the slightest sound in the yard at night has us up with a rifle. Calm down. if you’re on the edge like this all the time, you’re going to do something stupid.
2. The telecom infrastructure in the US is hanging by a thread. Literally, I expect everyday to wake up and see that nothing works. If that happens, keep your cool and remember that most of the issue is that telco contractors are mostly sh!tbags who steal money and buy pain pills. Yes. Most. This is why the telco system in our country is so terrible. It’s full of people taking the money and running.
That said, when it comes to shortwave:
Buy a radio and learn to use it. Don’t worry about licencing. When the shit hits the fan, your licencing won’t make a difference. Just buy one, learn to use it. The Baofeng is the go-to for price and usability... although of course being Chinese as all hell. But it’s cheap. China.
Likewise, all ham operators have their own system in place to help “you normies” get in touch with the news. If you need to sit at their chair and get specific info, they will walk you through it or let you watch as they do it. They will key up and relay messages. They aren’t looking for a roommate but if something goes on, HAMS are in front of their radios and will answer a knock on the door. Just don’t drive to the house in a black SUV or full size van. Or helicopter. Leave your helicopter at home.
Finally, You MUST meet more people within a bicycle riding range who are like minded.
Too attached to the internet?
Is such a thing even possible?
Moose bit my sister while she was showering.. and a plop of cheese squirted out of... well, you know ;)
Actually happy we are still online.. Brushed most of the conspiracy stuff about the net to the side, until I couldn’t connect to anything except Skype :p
nully, great to see you again :D
hope this stays that way (I can still get the pings)
Never use the latest cellphones.
Never drive a new car.
Keep your old passwords for old accounts.
Use email addresses you created long ago, with obsolete profiles and do not update them.
Stay BEHIND THE CURVE, not ahead of it.
First offense is losing access to these highly questionably (and soon to be illegal) sites of malcontent.
Next offense, there will be a knock on your door, followed by the confiscation of all your electronic gear, up to and including your AM radio!
If you continue to express these dangerous opinions or activities, there will be a bunk in a "re-education" camp for you so we can show you the errors of your ways (or quietly make you "go away")...
One way or another, the empire will put an end to your troublesome meddling and revolutionary ideas!
Before you fall on your sword, my cable ISP frequently does their major maintenance on weekends. Occasionally, they will also create havoc around noonish weekdays.
If you are having trouble, it would one of several factors:
Your ISP is doing some kind of maintanance.
The backbone serving your ISP could be doing some kind of maintanance.
A server supplying many websites could be doing some kind of maintenance.
A website could be doing some kind of maintenance.
Mine will get glitchy for a while and then clear up. It is a part of being ‘connected’ to the world. Someone has to clean up all of those droppings from the hamster on the circular wheel supplying power to the Internet.
Nope. Mostly security patches. A bit glitchy though.
