For Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), the decision to endorse Republican nominee Donald Trump wasnt an easy one.
Although for the former Republican presidential nominees supporters the decision seemed to be sudden and rash, Cruz told KTRK-TV Friday that the decision to support Trump didnt come as a result of a political deal, but rather it came after several months of thought and prayer.
There were no deals, Cruz told the news station. We had been engaged in conversations. You know its been a decision as I said Ive been thinking about and praying about for weeks and months, discussing it with my family, and I made the decision today and announced it Friday.
Following his non-endorsement of Trump during the Republican national convention in July, Cruz took a lot of heat from Republicans and supporters alike. At the time, Cruz instructed Republicans to vote their conscience, a phrase that drew a large number of boos during his speech.
During an interview with the Texas Tribune Friday, Cruz invoked the phrase again, this time in-favor of Trump.

Yep, the more I saw and learned about him the worse it got. I went from being willing to vote for him as the nominee, to thinking he might be a good VP pick, to wanting to never see or hear him again.
False, he just endorsed Trump and Trump accepted his endorsement. The Republic hangs by a thread. Do you want to lose to Clinton ? The polls are very tight with Trump only trailing by perhaps one state. We need thousands of NoTrump voters to change their minds in close, but when nnable states like CO and VA.
Really? who is the guy who posted it? I thought it was Wayne Madsen, but he’s still above ground..
That sanctimonious slap was an endorsement? I couldn't tell. It looked more like the whining of a brat who was being forced by his mother to apologize.
The Republic hangs by a thread. Do you want to lose to Clinton ?
Perhaps you should ask Cruz that. The answer seemed to be that he was perfectly fine with it until it looked like his funding was going to be cut.
The polls are very tight with Trump only trailing by perhaps one state.
That is correct. So why is Cruz still trying to play the victim and snipping at Trump?
We need thousands of NoTrump voters to change their minds in close, but when nnable states like CO and VA.
Shouldn't your second statement be addressed to them?
I repeat, the guy taking pot shots at you is not an ally.
Just a fact.
Yes, he is voting Trump, and recommending others do the same, since President Clinton is the end of our Republic in all but name only. Focus on electing Trump/Pence and defeating Clinton/Kaine. Do you want to lose, or win ?
I saw it here on FR, but can’t find it.
Ohhhh that guy. Wow. After all this time they’re still killing people who expose the coverup.
Amen! Couldn’t agree more. And this coming from having supported him myself.
I may not like or trust Cruz unless he seriously redeems hi.self, but I will take what help I can get, even begrudging help. Apparently this endorsement has already pulled in some evangelical votes, so.
Well huzzah for for his brief moment of clarity. Everyone else with two functioning brain cells figured that out months ago.
Focus on electing Trump/Pence and defeating Clinton/Kaine.
I am. Cruz is not as demonstrated by this snarky little tidbit today.
Do you want to lose, or win ?
Why don't you ask Cruz that. He is the one STILL taking pot shots at the candidate he promised to support.
Once again, an ally is one that shoots at your enemy, not at you.
So while Cruz under threat of loss of funding begrudgingly kept his word at last it does not follow that he is an ally.
Accepting him as an ally takes trust. I doubt Trump is foolish enough to share his battle plans with Cruz. They might "accidentally" end up on the front page of the NYT.
Ted seems like a rather odd sort of fellow anyway, but I suspect the rumors about his daddy have some truth behind them.
Ted's overly inflatuated presidential ambitions out gassed rather quickly not long after that story came out, but young Teddy himself is still as gassy as he ever was.
Now that I know him better, I'm so happy he's not a contender for much of anything any more.
Born in Canada.
Born of CUBAN/USA (? on that dubious ‘USA’ item) parentage.
In Canada, of all places.
Naturalized in 2004.
Qualified for POTUS??
Huh?
I’m missing something here—something like the CONSTITUTION.
Reptilian trial lawyer.
Sen. Cruz did the right thing, and so did Trump to graciously accept the support.
Politics is what it is.
I give Cruz credit, and he is not my favorite politician (I lean to successful governors with records, like Walker and Perry).
a non-forgiveness forgiveness endorsement.
In his explanation,Cruz made a great case for voting for Trump, I think it may tip a whole lot of Republicans who were going to sit this one out.
Whatever it takes, as long as it doesn't hurt, I will take it. Onward to VICTORY, then we can go back and act like vindictive kids later.
I didn’t like seeing him coming out of the plane with the Obummer’s, Huma, and Hillary after he got knocked out of the nomination. Collusion? What was that all about?
I’m with you 100% Lurkinanloomin! Cruz is not natural born, and I’ve had enough of citizenship issues via McCain and Obummer. We have plenty of home grown American citizens to choose from!
