It is illegal for clergy to support or oppose political candidates from the pulpit. Houses of worship can host candidate forums and voter-registration drives; pastors and rabbis and imams can even bend the rules a little to advocate as individuals at conventions or other events. But for more than 60 years, religious groups have been forbidden from electioneering.
Apparently, a lot of pastors dont pay attention to this rule. According to a new survey from Pew Research Center, roughly 9 percent of people who have attended religious services in the last few months have heard clergy speak out in favor of a political candidate, and roughly 11 percent have heard clergy speak in opposition. Whats remarkable, though, is how much this is apparently happening at one particular kind of church: those run by black Protestants.
Fully 28 percent of those who have attended black Protestant churches in the last few months heard their pastor support Hillary Clinton.

The IRS has the authority to audit and fine congregations if they suspect them of campaigning or lobbying. The agency rarely exercises this right,.
Instead the IRS concentrates on stifling free speech of conservative groups.
"Lois Lerner, please pick-up the white courtesy phone."
There is nothing new under the sun...
Law, unequally applied is just tyranny.
It’s only illegal if it’s prosecuted. Remember. Eric Holder personally visited ‘clergy’ to show them how to “legally” advocate for Obama and democrats.
“Obama hear our prayers”
Black privilege.
How’s Rev. Wright these days?
Oh Please.....Laws are for White people and Republicans.
When I worked at Boeing in the early 80’s, I got to go on a tour of facilities supported by United Way. The idea was that folks like me could then go back and report all the good they were doing.
One of the stops was a black church. They were very proud of all the Democratic party events they were having.
I never gave United Way another dime.
Brain damaged preaching to the brain dead.
Which in itself is total bullshit.
They know that they will never be prosecuted.
I think we all know that these regulations only apply to mainstream racially mixed congregations, Christian or Jewish.
The black churches are in reality exempt. As are Muslim houses of worship.
*Spit*
They do this every 4 years... nothing new here.
Hell, this is the least of the laws she has had broken...
This same story is written every four years, they just have to change the name of the Democrat
They told us that there would be no pressure to sign up and that it was completely free will. They said there was no “we must get 100%” rule. But when I simply declined to participate, I was called into my boss’ office and he made a REALLY strong case that I could give just $1 per paycheck. I said no, that it was a matter of principle, and amplified with “why would I buy my stocks through a brokerage firm when I have my own seat on the exchange?” i.e. all my giving is direct.
Man, was he pissed. It was my first CLM. (Career Limiting Move)
Laws are for conservatives.
The reason this idea is in the news is the fear that right wing churches are going to be political... as they should be. Liberals have used the black Church for decades... it's an open secret - and they bribe them with cash... this liberal elite ‘concern’ is a fake and filthy as they are....
The IRS admitted in writing in 2012 that they have no authority over what is preached, even if it includes political endorsements. The infamous Johnson amendment that formed the basis of the claim made by IRS and others over the last 60 years has never been tested because it is frankly unconstitutional.
