Look up Rommel if you enjoy history. Look up Gary Larson if you enjoy bizarre and cerebral cartoons. "Rommel at Walmart" just conjures up hilarious images.
That’s the Spirit! That’s exactly what I am talking about!
Yep, so begins the Gary Larson thought processes.
Cupcakes for Pia and Rommel’s Wedding

Oh, now you have the Spirit of things... Good one! Lightning response to the Blue Light Special?
And I love Gary Larson: "so you're the 'they' in that's what they say."
Yeah! I was thinking of a parking lot full of Panthers with Rommel asking for 88mm ammo and Twinkies.
My high school chemistry and physics teacher was a retired submarine skipper. We had a blast, and nobody misbehaved.
I see you have picked up some answers in the meantime.
Get hip. Read some history, as it is very entertaining; and, being able to converse is much better than returning a blank stare.
Rommel was a very capable German Field Marshal in North Africa during WWII. He is also known as "The Desert Fox". He never came near a Walmart. Gary Larson is a magnificent cartoonist who liked to mix history with the bizarre.
The point is humor.
I don't think so. The Germans lost because they overextended themselves and the Allies wrecked their supply lines. Montgomery took the upper hand in North Africa simply because Rommel was unable to replenish his ammo, fuel, and broken machines.
Patton and Eisenhower both popped up sort-of out of nowhere.
Whoa there! Can this be true?
I smell Montgomery. ... By God, it IS Montgomery!
"By the Kaiser's moustache... what a savings!"
Sure, I’ve been out of (public) school for quite some time but this name never appeared in my history books.
In 1955 I was seven years old, and lived in the city of Ulm in Germany. That happened to be Rommel's birthplace and home. One shop keeper near our elementary school had two pictures on his wall: One was Rommel and the other Patton. Germans adored Patten as they do all fine warriors.
Rommel refused to join the Nazi party; and, his high regard in the public eye kept him safe from repercussions. Rommel was well known to treat the vanquished honorably; and, would actively refuse immoral orders.
Rommel knew of the plot to kill Hitler, but did not report it. Rommel was asked to poison himself in order to avoid execution. The public would not have stood for Rommel's execution; and, such might have affected Hitler's hold on the people.
I'm not sure how you can go through life without seeking out historical material. It is very interesting and goes a long way to explaining how current events came to be so. I strongly encourage you to read history. I keeps you safer from the lies of politicians.
It also keeps you safe from the politics of historical revisionism. The Holocaust happened, and Apollo landed on the moon.
Do know about Wernher Von Braun?
Yes but let me back up some.
When I was in high school, mid 70’s, I had no interest in history.
Here’s what was required for high school: A semester of world history, a semester of American history, a semester of economics, a semester of AZ history, a semester of American Govt. and a semester of something else...can’t remember.
Looking back, it certainly was not enough.
