In the video, a team of South African lion hunters have shot and wounded a male lion, but it disappears from their sight. What they don’t realize is that the lion is circling them, looking to counterattack, see the video here.

Oh get off it. Hunting destructive pests like Coyotes and feral hogs is mostly sport but necessary to keep the numbers under control. A lot of feral hogs that are shot are not eaten.

I would not call that unnecessary sport shooting.
I am against unnecessary killing of all kinds, because it makes people more calloused towards all life including people.
People that get their jollies out of blowing things up just for whims, are dangerous to everyone.

Most sport hunting of big game consists of taking out rogue animals or culling oversized populations. The countries that charge big money for a sport tag are helping to conserve their animal populations and most times the locals get the meat. Africa is lousy with lions. Just like the US is lousy with bears. I don’t want to shoot them because there isn’t much sport in it but I also want the numbers kept under control so somebody has to do it. There is nothing innately evil about it.

It was quoted in Capstick’s book. I have all of his books, Peter Capstick was a good writer. I have Robert Ruarks books also. Dreamed of hunting with him as a kid, with my Holland and Holland 470 Nitro Royal hung over my shoulder.
I simply have a problem with certain “big game” hunting. And the big cats are one. I know all about wildlife conservation, and so on. I hunted as well. Sure, the hunter pays big money to bag a lion, etc. But such big cats are not as prolific as wildebeest, for example. I look at hunting with powerful rifles as no sport at all. Sneak up, shoot, take photos, go back and celebrate. Wow, big friggin deal. Yes, the hunt may be to take out a troublesome animal. But the line between troublesome animal and big paycheck can easily be overstepped for the big money. I simply want to slow the decline in numbers of the big game that are declining in numbers.
