No it’s an SKS
“No its an SKS”
Definitely not. It looks like a Saiga of some sort with an added pistol grip: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saiga_semi-automatic_rifle#/media/File:Saiga-308.jpg You can tell it’s not an SKS by the missing silver colored MASSIVE bolt and the AK style dust cover: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saiga_semi-automatic_rifle#/media/File:%D0%A1%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%B3%D0%B0_%D0%9C%D0%BA.jpg
Or it might be an AK-74 variant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-74#/media/File:Ak-74mpdomain.JPG
It is a Saiga 7.62x39 with a folding stock
I own a few of each of them
The photo is definitely of an AK based rifle, not an SKS. Hard to tell if it’s a “47,” which does use the same cartridge as the SKS, the 7.62x39 or a “74,” which uses the Soviet analog of the 5.56 NATO, the 5.45x39. Since both cartridges are the same length, it’s hard to tell the difference from a distance.
But I did read that it was supposed to be an SKS that was used, but from the audio of part of the attack I heard, there were either multiple shooters, or an SKS with a detatchable magazine. But weapon in the photo is NOT of an SKS.
Mark
While it was widely reported that this guy used an SKS, that is definitely NOT an SKS, and appears to be an AK-74.
