Entitlements are the realities of how people live now and necessities of a 21st century economy, so weve got to retool our system, Pres. Obama declared Tuesday.
Speaking at the White House Summit on the United State of Women, Obama said America has got to retool our system, because guaranteed benefits are a vital and immutable way of life

In other words, massive spending and unsustainable debt is good. So is people’s dependence upon government. /sarc
Until taxes are astronomically high the government runs out of money...then what? /sarc
The problem is you can only have so many low-paying jobs. But these are the wages (no pun intended) of a service-based economy.
The Food Stamp President.
Entitlements, even if productive taxpayers were not losing their hard-earned money to wasteful programs, would still be immoral. The harm that entitlements do to the recipients is sufficiently severe that any decent person (i.e., anyone but a democrat) would want to stop those programs.
For the racist democrats who want to keep blacks at the bottom of the economic ladder though, entitlements are the best option. You cannot climb to the top if you never start working.
“To each according to his needs.”

A large proportion of these unemployed and their dependents have been forced on the relief rolls. The burden on the Federal Government has grown with great rapidity. We have here a human as well as an economic problem. When humane considerations are concerned, Americans give them precedence. The lessons of history, confirmed by the evidence immediately before me, show conclusively that continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fibre. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit. It is inimical to the dictates of sound policy. It is in violation of the traditions of America. Work must be found for able-bodied but destitute workers.
The Federal Government must and shall quit this business of relief.

Riots. The peeps will become unruly. That’s why everyone is buying guns.
What a chump thinks he can still pimp socialism when it failed world wide talk about a slow mind.
Great post! Dependence is destructive.
Actually, this is great. Gotta keep Barry talking because when Her Heinous says that Trump wants to take America backward to make it great, we can say, "Yes, because under a late 20th century economy, people didn't need entitlements to live then."
And yet I’ve never heard anyone point out that quote from FDR.
I bet you if I gave that quote to a Democrat and asked who said it, they would all say it was Reagan.
I’ve noticed that every once in a while, a liberal politician will point out that the national debt is small, when compared to the privately held wealth in this nation.
And, that statement is quickly followed by a statement about some large percentage of that wealth being held by the 1%.
The strategy is clear: Bankrupt government to the point that it starts stealing private wealth (post income tax). Politicians will be exempt of course.
Ireland has already done this by stealing from private retirement accounts - which is where I would expect it to first happen here. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a story about how the 401k had failed the American worker...and it implied the government may have to swoop in and save the day.
The Federal Government must and shall quit this business of relief. Please forgive me if I find this too akin to If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor . . . that seems to be the context, at my first glance. From the same address:
We have undertaken a new order of things; yet we progress to it under the framework and in the spirit and intent of the American Constitution. We have proceeded throughout the Nation a measurable distance on the road toward this new order.See the twists in language? Also American Constitution versus US Constitution.
Oh no doubt FDR was wrong on a LOT of things, but even he knew what the ultimate outcome would be.
It is with great reluctance that I have agreed to this calling. I love democracy. I love the Republic. The power you give me, I will lay down once this crisis has abated! From science fiction, but it looks too much like these false promises out of these politicians.
