Their Unrealistic Expectations Crushed At Last, Wealthy Millennials Now Shop At Dollar Stores
The Daily Caller ^ | June 17, 2016 | Eric Owens, education editor

In the wake of the long series of lean economic years since the onset of the Great Recession, America’s affluent millennials have taken to shopping for groceries, toiletries and even clothing at ultra-discount stores such as Dollar General and Family Dollar.

It’s not just Pabst Blue Ribbon-drinking hipsters trying way too hard to be different, either. At Dollar General, members of the millennial generation — of all income brackets — accounted for nearly 25 percent of the company’s first quarter revenue in 2016, reports Reuters.

Millennials, if you are not up on your demographic jargon, are the cohort of young people born roughly between 1980 and 2000. It’s the term baffled academics and journalists have chosen to bestow on the generation after Generation X.

The dollar store-shopping young people found by Reuters say they buy stuff at the stores for the same reason everyone else does: to save cash....

The problem with dollar stores is that much of the stuff sold there is super-cheap Chinese crap...

My experience is that isn't true in Dollar General. Household supplies, some foods, greeting cards and personal hygiene products are reasonably priced, and surprisingly often made in USA.

We gave them each a tenner and took them to the Dollar Store. BEST. DAY. EVER. They talked about it for years after that.

LOL! The simplest things are sometimes the best things.

We have a new large Dollar Tree
My favorite item boxes of Ice cream treats. 5/6 for $. Just as good as grocery store at 1/3 the price.
They also had pliars, hammers, screw drivers etc. so filled an extra tool box to keep handy for under $10. Not heavy duty but sure are convenient (and made a great extra graduation gift for those headed to college )

Florida law doesn’t permit guns in dance clubs. Probably enacted because of all the shootings that go on at black discos and nightclubs. So it wasn’t these victims fault at all. Who knows? Out of everyone in that club that night, someone may have been a gun owner.

I found that to be the better option. It’s better to have a known quality of homeless be allowed on your property to keep the lesser quality off.
It’s
also a point of ministry. If he’s a good guy and is just trying to get back on his feet, having an address is an absolute necessity.

For the girls, they actually have English lavender soap which is lovely to use as an air or bureau freshener...or even as a soap. Sometimes European cookies and candies.

These are stores that truly provide a service.

Not being squeamish in one’s shopping habits is imparted around here in college. Don’t know where this guy has been.

Don’t know where this guy has been. The millennials I know learn to be frugal during college and in general aren’t wealthy.

Members of “the greatest generation” did exactly the same thing, nothing new. Except they were not called Dollar stores, they were the “five and dime”.

The merchandise is still costs the same , but the greenback has shrunk considerably.

Don’t know where this guy has been. The millennials I know learn to be frugal during college and in general aren’t wealthy.

That's because you know millennials that didn't get endless handouts from their parents, and used student loans to pay for college, not to provide living expenses.

Just like after a mugging, ones’ opinions tend to become more conservative once you have to pay for everything yourself.

Who knows, maybe the social liberals that pass for cheap journalists these days may actually start growing up.

Two days ago I bought a very healthy variety (no Yellow 31, or Purple 96 inside) of Wise corn chips for $1.

But it does contain cotton seed oil. Cotton is not a food crop. It is a textile. It should never have been approved for food consumption. It is not digestible.
