AP: Do-Nothing San Jose Police Hammered for Allowing Thug Riot

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — This Silicon Valley city and its police department are facing mounting complaints of a tepid and tardy law enforcement response to attacks of Donald Trump supporters after a political rally.

Videos circulating online show physical clashes occurring in front of San Jose police officers dressed in riot gear and standing stoically in a line outside the convention center where Trump spoke. Critics also complained that assaults occurred on side streets near the venue that lacked police presence.

“Potentially more could have been done,” said San Jose Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio, chairman of the council’s public safety committee.

The questions about the San Jose police response came while Trump launched a rally Friday afternoon in Redding, California, a politically conservative city 350 miles north of San Jose. Trump called those who attacked his supporters Thursday night a “bunch of thugs.”

San Jose police chief Eddie Garcia commended his officers’ response to the violence after the Thursday night rally, saying the 250 officers on hand showed “discipline and restraint.”

More likely he agrees with the Mexicans and doesn’t want us Americans to elect Trump, restore the rule of law and deport the miscreants.

I believe San Jose police chief Eddie Garcia is in over his head or willfully looked the other way.

Chief Garcia was quoted elsewhere saying (in so many words) that the reason the police did not stop the Mexicans from attacking the Americans was that he didn’t want his officers to be injured.

Then perhaps Chief Garcia and his officers should consider a safer career path, such as librarian, florist or activities director at a senior center.

I haven't seen the videos; aren't they outfitted like Robocop anyway these days?

Especially since minimum camera red light tickets in Kalifornia is just south of $600 for a first time offense.
Plus one point so your Insurance can get in on the deal.

Probably the highest in the nation.

This includes those that are doing a “California stop to turn right” Even though there is no conflicting traffic.

I know this for a fact because it happened to me in Marysville.

Hope all you commies in Marysville had fun divying up my money.

I never go to Marysville to shop anymore.

BTW the camera video shows I had slowed to 8 mph before the right turn. There was no other traffic present.

From the article:1. Trump has, to my knowledge, not ignited any problems. The problem is with the protesters.

2. I challenge Mayor Sam to list the irresponsible behaviors of the Trump campaign. Again, it was the protesters who were irresponsible.

Mercury News comment section:

From Trump event attendee Karen Powers...

As a Trump supporter, I was there, in San Jose, attending the Trump event on June 2.

The Trump event attendees were forced to walk past the protesters afterward, after the event was over, to get to their cars. Broad areas of sidewalks and streets, that were not blockaded before the event started, were blockaded by barriers after the event ended,

and standing in front of those barriers were lines of individual police officers telling Trump event attendees what route to follow to get to their vehicles.

I had parked in a parking garage right next door to the event. Before the event, an easy walk to the event, after event over, had to square 4 blocks of sidewalk lined with protesters who somehow knew the exact route that Trump supporters/event attendees had to walk, and were waiting for them.

Frankly, it was pretty obvious that either law enforcement personnel or the mayors office, someone in the know, had told the protesters where the Trump supporters would be forced to walk after the event. Attendees only went where law enforcement officers told them to go in order to get to our cars. We followed their instructions. The protesters knew, seemed well informed, of the direction where Trump supporters were going to be heading even before we exited the event, and protesters lined that walking route as a result, literally laying in wait where no law enforcement was present.

There was an intent to force the supporters and protesters together. There was no intent to keep them apart.

Trump supporters exiting the event were literally set up like rats in a maze, forced to follow a prescribed set of boundaries, which led directly to the protesters and not away from them.

The press got their story but the clash was completely avoidable. It was created by intention and by design.

San Jose police Chief Eddie Garcia insisted that it was more important for police to hold their “skirmish line” formations than to stop individual attacks. Four arrests were made.

“We are not an ‘occupying force’ and cannot reflect the chaotic tactics of the protesters,” Garcia told reporters. Unless a victim’s life was in peril or the violence was “spiraling out of control,” he said, officers held back to avoid inciting more violence and having the crowd turn on officers.

Ha! You think Liccardo is bad? The guy he ran against, Dave Cortese, probably would have been down there helping beat up Trump supporters.

The funny thing is, SJPD knows well how to handle crap ;like this. Ask anyone who has been downtown for Cinco De Mayo or on First St. at closing time. I suspect Liccardo told SJPD to stand down.

The other funny thing is most of the bad actors who were interviewed/identified/arrested are not from San Jose. Most are not even from Northern California but from LA and Orange Counties. Which begs the questions who organized them and who funded them?

San Jose and its mayor and police chief are controlled by the Mexican drug cartel. Wake up America, Mexican drug cartel coming to your town next.
