Its easy for U.S. drivers to forget the high gas prices in recent years after the ultra-lows seen only months ago, but prices going into the summer months of 2016 are still well below what they were this time last year, and the lowest price heading into the summer months since 2009.
Despite a recent uptick in the price per barrel of oilup $20 since the last week of January 2016U.S. drivers will still enjoy the low gas prices this summer.
The spot price for WTI crude oil is still significantly lower than this time last year, trading today at US$49.94/bbl compared to 1 June of 2015, when prices were $62.21.

My prices have been going up.
Maybe, if the Ft Macmurray fire hadn’t happened.
6,000 sq km and still growing.
They got as low as $1.19/gal several months ago, but have now crept up to the $2.00/gal range.
That is still a lot cheaper than the $3.60 range it was in for a long while a couple of years ago.
Yeah, what do they mean “remain low?” Gas around here isn’t low.
Yep, it has to be below $2 to be “cheap”.
It’s crept up to $2.35 here currently, from a low a few months ago of $1.54. I’ve said all along that I wouldn’t complain too loudly if it was sufficient to get domestic production back on track. Hope it is, that 81 cents a gallon adds up over a month of commuting, and I’d hate for it to be for naught.
$2.15 a gallon here in my part of Virginia.
Up she goes, where she stops who the heck knows!
Sure. Take a bite out of storage.
For oil producers: recede. Bend like a willow. Then, when the time is right, uproot your opponent.
I was recently reading that things have been pretty rough in parts of West Virginia and eastern Kentucky.
If I could predict the price of gas, I’d be able to make good money in stocks and futures the rest of my life.
Were in the Corpus Christi area over the holiday. Saw it as high as $2.15 for regular - it’s up to $1.96 locally. Suspected it may have been for the holiday but it’s been creeping quite a bit lately.
Yep. On the rise here in Baltimore County.
Thanks bananaman22. Ours spiked up a bit about a week ago, and has been parked around the $2.50 a gallon mark. Best prices lately have been in the mid 2.40s, and I've seen nothing higher than $2.57. Amusement parks, family hotels/motels, and other classic road vacation ideas are probably going to do well.
Just today, as I was driving thru town...they were in the process of raising the price from $2.54 to $2.60
I live close to the Maryland border...and I stopped and filled up for $2.19...
un real..of course the democrat Gov. in PA. made sure to increase the PA. tax on fuel here...typical liberal a$$..
When I was still truck driving I avoided buying fuel in WV like I avoided the plague.
Taxes too durn high and probably still are.
Fuel taxes were generally lower in KY, not sure why prices would be high there unless they have raised taxes to fund new roads.
Be real interested to hear from a resident about what is going on there.
I don’t know when the following was written, but the situation looks really ugly.

I’m getting reports from people in the Midwest, too: more homeless people, meth labs and corruption.
Not in Connecticut
Oh,the drug use has been on a steep climb for some time.
The younger generation found out there is more money in drugs than moonshine and started growing pot.
Then crack came along and with a steady local supply the local use went way up.
I didn’t know meth was so popular there but it doesn’t surprise me to hear it.
Where there is money to be made the “entrepreneur” will go.
Kentucky and WV used to be coal states.
With the coal industry being hammered the last 8 to 10 years there are plenty of out of work coal miners needing to replace that black gold paycheck.
That ain’t gonna happen working the grill at Mickey D’s.
I hate to say it but some people see it as simple economic necessity.
They don’t realize its a monster that devours their families, friends and communities.
