Well Armed means to be Prepared
Cal Sportsman ^ | 4/13/2016 | D Johns

The main reason the survival movement has further adopted the moniker "prepper" is to promote the whole idea of planning in advance for any SHTF that might happen. Now, to be clear, some survivalists are not preppers and some preppers are not survivalists. It is the perfect storm for semantics. My daughter would reply the ubiquitous "whatever."

Whichever you are, the day will come when some event will cause you a whole series of inconvenient circumstances from catastrophic events like a hurricane or a tornado that might actually destroy your domicile or, at the very least, cause you to have to evacuate for a time, maybe forever. Are you ready for that?

Whatever your personal stance, politics, or survival orientation, the bottom line is to be well armed and well prepared. Otherwise, you will be dependent on somebody else to help you evacuate (remember the Government busses in New Orleans that never showed up?), or somebody else to feed you. Worse yet, you and your family may be the ones victimized by outsiders that come down your street to take your stuff. It could even be the neighbors you don't even know. Read the rest of the story.

Food, water, shelter and weapons to keep them.
The only problem is,how many preppers are psychologically prepared to kill another human being.

I hear and see the bravado talk often. I just shake my head as many have no idea what it is to take a life.

“many have no idea what it is to take a life”

Agree with that. When it REALLY comes down to it, many (probably including myself) freeze.

Depending on the situation even the slightest hesitation can be fatal.

Our current administration for the past 7 years has been arming known terrorist groups all over the world in an effort to overthrow elected governments. You can point to Reagan, but this president has done 5 times as much as Reagan. And they do it opening and make no excuses for it. Its bold, blatant and arrogant. Meanwhile that same administration wants to reduce our ability to arm ourselves in this country. Such a contradiction.

I have read many times that the universal response to killing a human for the first time is to get nauseated and vomit. Apparently it is common in battle.

And if you don’t do that, you might be a sociopath.

As an aside, everyone needs to make a list of people who can be trusted in a time of crisis. Neighbors and such.

I have done that already. Now I carry in my head a mental list of those who would be dangerous to my family post SHTF. It even includes certain extended family members who I’ve gained insight on. Druggies, basically, and I do not want them in my house even on a good day.

Well, there are a lot of personality types. The one thing the Walking Dead gets right is that. You got your Dale types, and your Glenn types. Then you got your Carol types, than start out helpless and eventually learn. (the obvious problem is you might not survive long enough to learn) Then you got your natural-born killer types, or at least the ones that don't hesitate much or at all: the Ricks, Shanes, Michonnes, Darryls. Then you got the kind that seem to enjoy killing a little too much... the Governors, the Negans. Of interesting note, you can never tell who will be what... both Dale and Negan were car salesmen.

A lot easier after the continued harassment of the Left and terrorists or the last 7 years...: )

Maybe I’m a sociopath then. There are very few I trust. There is even some family that I don’t trust.

That is one very big thing that makes a police officers job so difficult IMO. Most don’t realize that.

You sound a lot like me. If I'm a sociopath, then I'm a fairly ethical (or at least legalistic) and self-disciplined. I've managed to avoid felonies, misdemeanors and even traffic tickets.

I tend to meticulously follow the rules, and I hate waste. I refuse to kill spiders on the grounds they are beneficial, but in various incidents (due to chickens being killed, a pet cat getting mauled, trash cans knocked over and emptied) I killed a fox by throwing an aluminum bat at it from 50 feet way, killed 5 raccoons by crossbow.

I tend to divide people up into 4 categories: useful, marginally useful, useless, and threats. Woe to those in the 4th category if WROL breaks out. When I decide to do something, I'm not known for hesitation. (whether it is beating up a bully, jumping out of a plane, or killing an animal that has become a nuisance) Given that in a serious crisis, some people devolve into animals, I really don't see hesitation as a problem. I'm also not known for being squeamish.

When the SHTF, it’ll be so much worse than anyone has ever imagined, that “prepper” vs. “survivalist” meme won’t matter.

Think Hersey’s “Hiroshima” magnified by a thousand and spread all over the globe.

You MIGHT make it if you have a bunker five hundred feet deep and enough food and water for twenty years.

But there won’t be anything left to which to come out.

There is crime in my neighborhood.

I have run through the scenarios of what to do when somebody kicks in my front or back door.

Those scenarios involve shooting the intruder.

Not looking forward to it, but it’s part of being a grown up and defending my family.

I just hope my barf and their blood doesn’t ruin the hardwood floors, which are the best thing about my old house.

Yeah but it’s hard to do that if your heart explodes whilst unloading the amo cans from the Eff One Fitty.
