OK, she'd probably be safer if she had a gun, but in the absence of that, this strikes me as a pretty decent possible solution.
Video at link
P.S. Personally, if I am about to enter a parking garage (particularly at night) and notice a woman walking in ahead of me, I always hang back and wait to give her time to get a safe distance away from me before I proceed to my car.
It is a sad testament to the utter degradation of our culture and society that I feel obligated to hang back and give a female some space so she’s not afeared that I am going to attack her in a public place.
Happens every week or so. Saddens me a little every time.
Won’t work. You reach in your pocket and you are probably toast. Not a bad idea but one that won’t work.

I would do the same. Except, they are always digging around in their purse looking for the keys AND talking/texting on the phone. They have no ideas I’m within 10 miles of her.
Mrs. R2 used to like to go grocery shopping late at night. After 10:00 was fine with her. No crowds, no lines. It was easy.
I did NOT like it. I used to always warn her about safety issues. I told her to ALWAYS have a clerk walk her and the groceries back to the car. And always keep aware of your surroundings.
Excellent idea, physical response will be an important second step if the attacker does not retreat. This could also be expanded to citizen/officer confrontations, speed trap notifications, crime in progress notifications, set ups in businesses for robbery in progress with much better camera resolution. Now if it becomes court admissible, and cannot be manipulated data, stored both in the phone and the police station, it could become an invaluable aid. Love new technology, and new ideas.
That's a very good point. In the video the "criminal" is pretty much matching the "victim" step for step. In real life the criminal would stay hidden longer, then close the distance fast.
I’ve been in that situation a number of times. I’ve always called out to the woman to alert her that I am behind her, and only going to my car (or whatever).
Never had a problem. And most women express some level of appreciation for the consideration.
A staged scene with a cooperative perp. Large car key, if that’s all you have, between the knuckles and punch to his neck as many times as possible.
Situations like the one depicted is why God created 16 and 32 ounce Beaver Tail Saps!
A superb Whomping Instrument.
Doesn’t seem “App” for the occasion....
“Stop! I’m a muse....”
I will not only reach in my pocket but will withdraw a 9 mil and it will work! Never surrender
Do they have an app to tell your next of kin where to find the body?
Honestly, I see almost no benefit to that app.
If the man in this scenario were intent on attacking her, he would have done so. Slapping the phone out of her hand would have been step 1.
In fact, had she pulled a knife instead of a phone, many resolute attackers would have laughed at her.
Her best bet would have been to make a 90 deg turn to see if he followed (men do walk behind women because they are headed in the same direction) and then if he did, prepare to shoot him. Nothing beats superior lethal capability.
Society has degraded to the point where men hang back so as not to be pepper-sprayed or shot by a scared woman. Wouldn’t it make more sense to hang actual aggressors and rapists in the public square and make everyone safe again?
So a person with no bad intentions has to change his conduct to avoid trouble while a violent criminal does what he wants.
If you hang back too far she’ll accuse you of stalking.
It also won’t work if the victim is caught completely by surprise.........which, and I’m only speculating, occurs quite often.
Watch the guy walk right by her and the remote cop and call her an idiot, 99% of the time.
Oh please. In a high stress situation, the first thing you lose is fine motor coordination and high cognitive function (unless you have spent time practicing under those conditions). Very few are going to have the capacity to find an obscure app on their phone or even remember they have it in a matter of less than 2 seconds when the “fight or flight” response” mechanism has been activated?
Give her not even a second glance and keep walking. No matter what silly 'app' she has on her phone.
What if he is only trying to get to his car, which may be parked near hers? If no assault has been committed, lady stabbing with keys is in trouble with the law.
