Defend Heidi Cruz

by MONA CHAREN March 26, 2016

Is Trump the political genius that some have been hinting? Who else, without staff or experience, could rocket to the top of the polls and remain in that perch month after month despite everything? Maybe it’s genius, or maybe its shamelessness. The latter can be mistaken for the former. This week’s new slog in the mud demonstrates one of Trump’s techniques to perfection — he flings filth at an opponent and then invites the docile press to conclude that “both sides” are engaged in unseemly brawling. (This is usually John Kasich’s moment to shake his head sadly and remind voters that, golly gee, he would never do such things.)

The “wife spat” began, as these things always do, with a Trump shiv. An independent PAC, Make America Awesome, published practically nude pictures — fully available in the public domain — of Melania Trump from a GQ photo shoot from the early 2000s, and invited viewers to consider whether someone who posed for such pictures would make an appropriate first lady. Trump then grabbed this small ad as excuse to hurl accusations at one of his opponents (wonder why he didn’t accuse Kasich?), tweeting that he believed Cruz to be responsible for the ad and threatening to “spill the beans” about Heidi Cruz if Cruz weren’t “careful.”

Cruz had nothing to do the the Make America Awesome ad. But before getting to the rest of the imbroglio, and at the risk of seeming utterly Victorian in this sorry time, it seems to me that Melania’s history as a nude model is not completely out of bounds as an election issue for voters. In an era when Paris Hilton becomes a household name for being featured in a sex tape,..... (READ ON)

No...I'm embarrassed there's people on this forum still pushing the quaint notion that PACs and campaigns don't collude, hence my comment to you.

I didn’t realize the Trump was dating Melina for 3+ yrs when she did the nude GQ cover shoot. Makes his indignation about the pic even funnier.

Who defending Melania?

When that photo cam out, it would have been appropriate for Heidi and the other wives to defend Melania. All I can think of is those pictures of Melania taking such wonderful care of Heidi's daughters at a debate when Heidi had somewhere else she had to be. Considering that, Heidi must respect and trust Melania.

This author is deranged. It's not Melania who's fair game. It's Heidi. She's on leave from Goldman-Sachs, she's an accomplished globalist trade banker, and she works with the campaign, collecting donations.

Now, that's obscene!

Just like Bill Clinton. Are you sure you really want to hold up Clinton and Cruz against Trump and Gingrich here?

Faulty syllogism (over-extended middle/ affirming the consequent logic). The man with multiple wives has broken multiple vows. The man with one wife might have.

This will not seem very impressive if the NE story turns out to be even partially correct.

The more the volume goes up without any hard evidence, the less likely it appears to be true. First it was 5, now 8. Next there will be stories about nights out with Wilt Chamberlain with Cruz winning the competition.

A "Jennifer" on the side (as we were told that George the Elder had in '92) or a long ago fling while married would be more plausible. If Cruz had been setting himself up for a future presidential run at a young age, he would know have known that was a likely deal-breaker.Sen. Cruz is not a Herman Cain figure, doing this one step above a lark. Further, you can't handle EIGHT (even non-simultaneously) without it being an open secret. When it comes out (from wherever) at this particular moment in this particular campaign, I get very skeptical. It doesn't pass the Occam's razor test for me.

Wow...so nice of Mona to do this. Such heart.

Wasn’t she one of the many Trump haters who signed on to the antiTrump NR issue?

Mona can ride into the sunset on the stick she rode in on.

Her column made no sense. It seems everything from the Iraq deal to Cruz’s affairs are Trump’s fault.

Cruz has a definite whipped-dog look to him in that picture.

“Without Trump in the race, Jethro Bush would have been the undisputed nominee long before Super Tuesday.”

Absolutely. Cruz was a goner to Bush before Trump got traction.

You gotta be kidding. Surely you know it’s against the rules to read an article.

Yeah,,, no. I won’t defend Heidi. She hires someone to raise her kids. She worked very hard for open borders, and then to eliminate the border. I don’t want to live in Mexico.
