My sweet little Cashmere passed away today.
She was only 9 1/2 years old. She had quit eating starting Friday so by Sunday I was panicking and took her to the emergency vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight already, due to polycystic kidney disease. The vet said we could only get maybe another couple weeks with her with treatment at the clinic, so we decided to end her suffering.
She has about the sweetest cat I've ever had. Cautious, shy, the undercat among her brother and sister. I always had to protect her and make sure she got her fair share of food, toys, catnip, etc.
She was quietly playful - I'd catch her playing with string the string from window blinds or a piece of paper on the floor. When she was un 'friendly mode', she'd purr loudly, rub against you while twirling round and round, finally settling down to knead while purring her head off.
She was the only cat I could trust to take outside at our cabin in the Sierras, since she'd always stay by me and would follow me when I called her. She'd get nervous after an hour outside and stand by the front door, waiting to be let in. But she'd chase bugs and play while outside - while I snapped pictures of her. She was very photogenic!
I apologize for all the pictures! My little girl took good pictures (of course, all pet parents think the same thing!). Her brother and sister weren't nearly as photogenic, though. These pictures represent my memories of her so I wanted to share them, plus post a memorial to her. I did try to keep them small!
Her sister, Cotton, and brother, Corduroy, will miss her terribly. The 3 have been together for 9 1/2 years and don't know what it's like to be apart. Like any siblings, they had their tiffs, with little Cashmere in the losing end most of the time. So when they'd get along and sleep, play, or watch birds together, I'd be happy for Cashmere.
Beautiful kitty! You gave her a full and wonderful life!
I’m so sorry you lost Cashmere. She was truly beautiful. Treasure your memories; people and pets live on in them.
So sorry to hear this.
Thank you so much for sharing the pictures of Cashmere, Cotton and Corduroy, and the memories, too. I have had cats who would always check out my flowers — however, most of mine would eventually either chomp them, or outright take off with a few! Sounds like Cashmere had more class.
So sorry for the loss of your beautiful cat.
I am soooooooo very sorry. She is gorgeous and even if she was ugly as sin, the love and companionship the offer is without price. I know you are hurting and also know that is a huge hole that might bot ever go away. Hugs my friend.
You have my deepest condolences on your loss. Please know your Cashmere is chasing butterflies just this side of Heaven and she is waiting for you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you have her siblings.
All cats go to heaven.
Oh, what fun. Are you a photographer? These are so funny! And beautifully shot. How did you ever get them to pose?
Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.
Well, thank you! No, I’m not a photographer, just an obsessed cat mom. LOL, no they wouldn’t pose for me ;) I took hundred of shots with a little pocket camera, deleting away most of them! Thank goodness we’re in the digital age or it would’ve cost me a fortune in film and flash (remember those?). oh, and developing too.
I think you ARE a photographer. That’s what they do - thousands of shots. Anyway, they are amazing and have given me great pleasure this morning. And the cats themselves are just gorgeous. If I get another cat, my husband will kill me!!
We've got a 16 year old that we've had for 16 years and cherish every day with her!
I’m in the same boat. Apparently I’ve had my quota of cats over the years. Max, my formerly feral kitty, is sitting on my lap now. I have to enjoy my 3 while I have them!
How striking your kitties are!
I’m sorry for the loss and I know how it hurts. But it sure looks like Cashmere and her relatives hit the kitty lottery in their lives!
You’re very sweet, thank you! I think I’m the lucky one ;)

I am so sorry for your loss. We just lost our 17 year old cat, Murphy, to heart failure.
Don't worry, we'll exact revenge on him...........
I am so sorry for your loss. My 9 1/2 year old cat is truly a member of our family. I can appreciate how much you will miss her.
