Feral swine are considered pest species in many countries, including the U.S. They reproduce fast and destroy billions of dollars worth of agriculture and live stock each year.
Now more than ever, hunters are trying to kill wild pigs as fast as they can. But there are some dangers.
Wild pigs are exactly that - wild. They can be very aggressive, and when hunters get too close, they'll charge fast. If they make contact with a hunter, they'll often bite hard with their razor sharp teeth. See the wild pig video here.
When I was a kid living in the Philippines, they had wild boars there, and I knew enough to avoid them. Got treed by one once walking home alone.
Fortunately for me, my best friend’s father ran the SERE training at Cubi Point for the US Navy, and instilled in his four children a healthy respect for them, which rubbed off on me.
Some of the people in that video seemed to have no respect at all for those creatures. You can get killed and ripped up by them.
Some of them may be off flavored. On the whole they can be very good. There is an industry of butchering the wild pigs and shipping them to Europe.
An in-law who hunted pigs in California said they used to cut off a small piece and cook it up as an eat no eat test.
My brother got a 270# Texas boar. He did his own processing including hams sausage and bacon. I had some, it was excellent.
Agree with the sidearm comments above. A footnote is large capacity magazines, since they will charge in groups.
Friendly police officer in North TX recommended the AR-10 for pest control. I’m inclined to agree.
Knife hunting hogs is quite popular just do a you tube search and you well find some interesting stuff
Hey if they like US wild pig in Europe, more happy pork eating to them.
I wonder what kind of prosciutto could be had from these oinkers.

If you’re in a hunt, kill, and eat mood, they would be absolutely great.
Indeed it would. I’m planning a pig hunt for this spring in Wisconsin.

Or there’s a place for all of God’s creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes. I saw a T shirt like that for sale in one redneck hunting place I visited while on the back roads. That’s what I love about redneck, they know they aren’t polite company and still they’re reverent.
Sometimes born hunters can get frustrated and then they start to imagine other things hunted that God never wanted hunted, at least not as first choice. I wonder if Nimrod was that way. Couldn’t quite contain his gift.
.454 Casull, 300 gr bullet.
I know they have been on my property since they tore up my butterfly garden. Saw them on a ridge going to the water tank but not lately. See them on the side of the road at night- sometimes dead, sometimes on the move.
One of my old coworkers knew a guy who hunted them with a flashlight and a knife.
Never hunted them but have an open invitation. My concern is .223 wont stop them. Advice?
It must be what they are eating in your part of the country. The ones I have shot are delicious.
We got 76 dozen tamales from one from just the front quarters and misc trimmings.
When I was a kid, recall seeing pics of backup guys on Catalina island with Thompson SMGs for the boar hunters.
.223 is a favorite caliber for hogs. I have killed them with .44mag and 7mmTCU which is a .223 case with a .284 bullet crammed in the end out of a 10” barrel.
Get a new upper receiver in one of the large calibers now available that fit the .223 lower. Buddy likes the Beowulf or something like that.
