Feral swine are considered pest species in many countries, including the U.S. They reproduce fast and destroy billions of dollars worth of agriculture and live stock each year.
Now more than ever, hunters are trying to kill wild pigs as fast as they can. But there are some dangers.
Wild pigs are exactly that - wild. They can be very aggressive, and when hunters get too close, they'll charge fast. If they make contact with a hunter, they'll often bite hard with their razor sharp teeth. See the wild pig video here.
Unless they’re vegetarians too, they’re being hypocrites. At least these critters got to live free in the wild till the very end. Eat your hearts out, cage free chickens who are actually too lazy to leave their chicken barracks.
Some guys are hunting these beasts with spears.
I’ve seen some people use Tannerite on YouTube. KAAAAA BOOM.
Boar meat is actually pretty decent if processed....bacon, smoked ham, canadian bacon, heavily spiced sausage etc.
Don’t try to eat fresh cuts unless you’ve completely lost your sense of smell.
When Javelina snap their jaws together it sounds like someone took two short 2 x 4’s and slapped them together on the flat side. I have had to run them out of my fenced yard several times after a fence gate closed behind them when they were raiding my trash cans.
I’d want a back-up shooter armed with a 12 gauge. Those pigs are fast, you may not have time to draw and fire.
In the gym I met a guy from South Louisiana who was way up north here working on an ethanol plant, of all things.
Anyway we were talking guns and dogs and sech and he said one of his cousins heads into the woods to hunt wild pigs with just a machete.
He one crazy mofo, the guy said.
Is this even possible?
A friend of mine went on a guided hunt in California, to hunt wild boars with a .357 Magnum revolver. He said his professional guide carried a 12-gauge loaded with slugs.
Sows don’t have tusk but they will bite hard. I think I read somewhere the jaw/bite pressure of a 400# sow and it’s astronomical.
They also have the hardest heads imaginable. A sledgehammer hit that would pulverize a block of concrete won’t crack a sow skull.
“...hunt wild pigs with just a machete.”
Baby ones maybe.
Texas now allows hog hunting from helicopter:

But Tannerite - Kind sir, I see you appreciate the classics:

Many folks equate Tannerite with freedom, as it is still commonly sold over the counter with little regulation.
I’ve never played with it, which is for the best. In this spirit of freedon I give you “30lbs of tannerite vs 79 Ford Bronco”:

Good stuff!
There are a number of videos on the net of hunters using only knives to boar hunt. You can find places that advertise knife hunts.
> Feral hogs are a big problem is South Texas. I see packs of them quite often. They are shot on sight.
My daughter lives in South Texas and about twice or more every year she bags a hog with her .308. The shot is usually from her back porch.
I've taken one with a bow and one with an AR-15. I hope my wife doesn't see that video, or I may have to stop doing that.
They’re getting more and more common in parts of southern Indiana now.
In one of the clips, the guy whacks the boar over the head with what looks like a pizza box. That was a bad idea. That and a few of the clips where guys try to grab boars bare handed.
Safety tip. If an animal has tusks, they’re not just for show.
