Those Republicans who don’t want Donald Trump need a better alternative candidate than either member of the Cuban junior varsity.

Neither Senator Ted Cruz nor Senator Marco Rubio can win in November.

So we need another big name reality tv show host that can just fling whatever he wants and get the crowds cheering for his stardom? Not that I’d support that candidate. But yeah, probably.

There’s always Jeb! He has a strong conservative record and knows how to get things done.

“I’ve voted in every election since 1976, but if Trump is the nominee, I’ll likely sit this one out.”

That reaction was predicted months ago.

One of the historic truisms in the past several election cycles is the Cruz Coalition, as currently assembled, is the first to stay home when their candidate does not win. The socially-minded voter will never vote for a populist fiscal conservative/socially moderate candidate. Cruz voters, and their advocates, are emotionally driven by social issues. Hence they yell a lot (See Mark Levin) and only respond well to others who are inside their echo-chamber.

Consequently neither Rubio nor Trump will try to gain/court Cruz voters. Why should they; the narrow-minded group will never vote for them, if they vote at all.

This non-voting truism is why the GOPe ignore the Cruz-like factions completely; because rarely will the GOPe be influenced by them. When Cruz Clan get angry and do not get their way they do not vote.

The modern way to deal with that faction is to make them angry, and they leave. Example: Questioning eligibility sets them off easily and they lose control. They might even invite another sketchy character, Glenn Beck, to help showcase their entrenched ideological moonbattery. See how easy that is? More exposure to the crazy = less votes in crazy camp.

Both Trump and Rubio will most likely ignore Cruz, as neither stands to benefit much.

My opinion is that Marco Rubio is the most electable.

He is personable, Hispanic and competent.

Cruz isn’t as personable.

Trump isn’t Hispanic and he tends upset groups by comments that aren’t on the mark.

I will certain chose anyone of them over Hillary.

If Hillary can control her mean streak she might win.

Considering you no absolutely nothing about me, you’re assertion is presumptuous to the extreme. Suffice it to say I vowed that Romney would be the last liberal either Democrat or Republican I would ever vote for again. I intend to honor that promise.

There is no time machine available to could possibly be used to go back and change the trajectory of events as they are now unfolding. The probability that The Donald will be the Republican nominee is now approaching 1.00, and his opponent will be Herself, who is on a similar track.

Which will look better to the American public? It largely depends upon WHICH American public shall make it to the polls. Both candidates have exceptionally high “unfavorable” ratios, so whichever side can get the most of the voters who consider the other side’s candidate “unfavorable” stands a very good chance of gaining the popular vote. It is an old American tradition, voting AGAINST rather than FOR a given candidate.

But there is a monkey wrench in the works. The original assumptions were that only a few states would be in actual play this election cycle, and suddenly what were almost certain “red” or “blue” states, have decidedly become “purple”, that is, they are in play.

The Republican Establishment has a choice of two right now, either take what they consider to be lemons, and and make it into lemonade, by embracing The Donald, or suck the lemons, make a wry face, and keep their “purity”.

The lemons are already purchased, brought home from the store, and are setting on the kitchen counter right now.

There are the lemons, the knife, the sugar, the pitcher, and the water on tap. Get busy.

Good. Don’t want you spoiled brats anyway. You picked a loser. Deal with it. Provably voted for carter in 1976 anyway. Probably bashed Reagan in the 80’s for his liberal leaning as governor. You are transparent. Go cry to your mother. We’re sick of your nonstop pity party.

The Cuban sandwich. Toast on the outside, dead meat covered with amnesty sauce on the inside.

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are...

Grampa Dave...your posts #39 and #44 both offer good solid theories I had not considered.
Thank you for posting them as they provide another interesting angle to contemplate.

I’m a spoiled brat because I refuse to vote for your guy a liberal? Perhaps in the mind of a Kool-Aid drinking Trump worshipper that makes sense.

But for many of us clear thinking patriots it’s a principled stand.

BTW, I canvassed for Reagan.

The Republican establishment wants cheap labor.

The Democratic politicians want more desperate voters in need of government handouts.

“Amnesty” for illegal immigrants is almost a given, even though it violates the Constitutional requirement of a “uniform rule” for naturalization (meant by our Founding Fathers to keep naturalization out of politics).

I’m looking to trade “amnesty” for tax/regulation/benefit caps and the elimination of the 14th Amendment anchor baby clause (children would simply have the citizenship of their mother).

A truly legal amnesty requires a change in the Constitution.

“I refuse to vote for your guy”

I held my nose and voted for Romney, rank Republican.

Party switchers generally don’t do well, they carry two-much negative baggage.

So did I, and Reagan was hit with the same attacks Trump is being hit with.

You probably have a short memory.

But hey, stay home, nobody will miss you. It is all okay.

You are a spoiled brat because you support Hillary. That is worse then anything Trump could do. In fact, I think Trump could be the best President in history. You don’t see it but many laughed at Reagan (you should know since you canvassed). I just don’t understand how you could destroy America because you don’t get your way. I guess if I said I would never vote for Cruz in the general would give me a thumbs up from you? I doubt that.
