For GOP elite, the stink of panic

The Times piece also describes the intense pressure on Gov. John Kasich of Ohio to leave the race, and Kasich’s equally intense refusal to do so. But perhaps the best gauge of the panic setting in comes from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

“While still hopeful that Mr. Rubio might prevail, Mr. McConnell has begun preparing senators for the prospect of a Trump nomination, assuring them that, if it threatened to harm them in the general election, they could run negative ads about Mr. Trump to create space between him and Republican senators seeking re-election. Mr. McConnell has raised the possibility of treating Mr. Trump’s loss as a given and describing a Republican Senate to voters as a necessary check on a President Hillary Clinton, according to senators at the lunches.”

That is a drowning man grasping at straws. There is almost zero chance that the Republicans would be able to hold the Senate if Trump is the electoral disaster that McConnell apparently fears. And Republican senators running anti-Trump ads? Any senator who took that course would alienate a good chunk of their own base, ensuring their defeat.

McConnell has authorized Republican senators to run ads AGAINST the REPUBLICAN nominee!

Once again, party loyalty is a one way street!

Didn’t George W. Romney do that in 1964 in the MI governor’s race?

Trump could do one of three things:

A. He could be a conservative president.

B. He could wipe the GOP slate clean.

C. All of the above.

Please vote for A, B, or C in terms of likelihood or preference.

Of course.
The down-ticket candidates are going to be flooded with “stop Trump when you’re elected” money.

“I say we oust Ryan just for shits and giggles. Let him know we are coming.”

I’ve been posting a vanity every week suggesting exactly that. Advising conservatives in Ryan’s district to vote for somebody else, anybody else, even the democrat, to defeat Ryan.

Hopefully, it catches on.

No wonder it is known as the Party of Stupid.

If Trump is the nominee, it is because he got mandates in many states. Senators up for reelection should be clamoring to be on his coattails. The GOP senate under McConnell is certainly not that popular.

Heh. If Trump is pulling in crowds of thousands, I expect most of those candidates will be wanting to appear on stage with him. Alternatively, if they actively criticize Trump in their ads, they risk having Trump railing about it at his rallies. If those candidates are that stupid, it’s time for them to go home anyway.

In other words, Mitch’s opposition ads will indeed strengthen Trump’s position. Thanks Mitch!

The RNC/GOP owes The Cheap Labor Express an amnesty candidate. It looks like they will be unable to deliver.
The party is fully committed to keeping them running.

Trump means to put them out of business.

They will undercut him every chance they get.

They will not allow us to elect a President who would stop the illegal alien inundation.

Trump will have the right platform for Kentucky, Bitch MacConnell’s home state. Of course MC will not know that since he is more out of touch that Jeb! was. But, if Trump does not win Ky. I’ll buy a ticket to the next Clinton fundraiser.

You weren’t around in 1964, I guess. This is what Rockefeller and Scranton did to Goldwater.

‘This is what they did to Goldwater.’ It is??? Very young then, didn’t follow the election. It is breathtakingly disgusting to me.
