With New Hampshire in the dust and the 2016 presidential campaign moving southward to the Palmetto State, MSNBC's Chris Matthews tonight sought to paint conservative Republican Senator Ted Cruz as a latter-day Richard Nixon ginning up a bag full of "dirty tricks" for the February 20 South Carolina contest.
Dipping out of live coverage of a Donald Trump campaign rally in Pendelton, S.C., Matthews wondered if the GOP frontrunner was "sort of priming the pump now for some dirty action by the Cruz people?"
"I think he should be, if he's not already," Trump campaign correspondent Katy Tur answered. "The dirty tricks of South Carolina are well known, as we were just talking about," she added, before going over a litany of supposed Cruz "dirty tricks" in the Iowa contest. "Those are child's play when it comes to South Carolina politics," Tur noted, concluding that given how all the other campaigns have seasoned "smart South Carolina operatives" on staff, that if "Trump doesn't see these dirty politics, these dirty games coming his way, then he doesn't have a very good staff."(continued)

Take heart Cruz fans! Your Pure Christian Warrior will smite the Trump with holy lies and deceit! God’s lawyer is on the case!
Chris Matthews is who I look to for all my most trusted information.
Ya know, of all the pundits out there (and I DO think they all suck), I loathe Matthews the most. What a smarmy pig.
I knew there’d be one of you to come along and agree with the despicable, drunken Chris Matthews. Let’s see how many more show up.
“Take heart Cruz fans! Your Pure Christian Warrior will smite the Trump with holy lies and deceit! Godâs lawyer is on the case!”
Given Trump is on his third “Trophy Wife” and runs casinos that make money by ripping off of purple haired old ladies, I guess you would know what a Pure Christian Warrior looks like.
Misleading headline or did I miss the part where Matthews actually says that Cruz IS doing something dirty in SC?
Cruz it taking contributions from the Las Vegas Wynn family. So I guess you can’t vote for him either. ;-)
You jest but God did take out the Justice who thought you needed to be born on US Soil to run for POTUS
Given Trump is on his third...gold digger.
Teds campaign is already pulling dirty tricks with robocalls. Trump brought that up last night. Hard to deny that.
I’m sure Cruz, Bush and some of the others have some dirty tricks up their sleeves to unload on Trump. But, I’m not sure they’ll work.
Trump has expanded his campaign schedule to a press conference on Monday, followed by in Greenville. On Tuesday he has rallies at North Augusta and Beaufort, on Wednesday rallies at Waltersboro and Sumter, on Friday at Myrtle Beach. I’m sure there will be a rally or two on Thursday as well. These events will be maximum capacity of thousands. That is why I don’t think the dirty tricks of anyone are going to inflict much damage on the Trump bandwagon.
The ability to know how to cheat and/or stop your opponent from cheating will be an asset in the general election.
CM is nothing like a fine wine which improves with age. In his saner days (relatively speaking) he actually subbed for Rush Limbaugh once.
He’s already used Nixonian Dirty Tricks. And it’s been regularly. He is truly the Dirty Tricks king of all time; he makes Nixon look like an amatuer.
Wow! And I was almost ready to vote for Trump. If he isn’t able to handle Richard Nixon style trick he must be a real idiot.
But then this is Chris Matthews and MSNBC.
I am so confused now.
Don had great big rallies in Iowa, too.
