1. ...Scalia (nicknamed "Nino") was born on March 11, 1936, in Trenton...
2. After graduating from Harvard Scalia worked for a law firm in Cleveland...
3. In 1977 Scalia resumed his academic career at...the University of Chicago Law School (1977â82)...
4. Scalia was the first Italian American to serve on the Supreme Court...
5. Scalia was known for his wit and humor....
6. Scalia subscribed to a judicial philosophy known as "originalism." ...the Constitution should be interpreted in terms of what it meant to those who ratified the Constitution in 1788, and is often contrasted with the Constitution as a "living document" that allows courts to take into account the views of contemporary society....
7. Scalia was an adamant and vocal opponent of "judicial activism," particularly when it was used to circumvent the democratic process on social issues....
8. Prior to his death, Scalia had been the longest-serving justice on the current Supreme Court.
9. Scalia was a devout traditionalist Roman Catholic (one of his sons is a Roman Catholic priest). In an interview in 2013, the New Yorker asked him, "Isn't it terribly frightening to believe in the Devil?" Scalia replied,
You're looking at me as though I'm weird. My God! Are you so out of touch with most of America, most of which believes in the Devil? I mean, Jesus Christ believed in the Devil! It's in the Gospels! You travel in circles that are so, so removed from mainstream America that you are appalled that anybody would believe in the Devil! Most of mankind has believed in the Devil, for all of history. Many more intelligent people than you or me have believed in the Devil.

Only two ways that will happen. # 1 Obama doesn’t do it. # 2 The a point mentioned is made by a smart Constitutionalist President.
And yes, Scalia was a great man. He will be greatly missed and is greatly a appreciated.
Pray for America.
Amen...Very well said!
He will be sorely missed. What a great man.
May his Memory be Eternal!!!!
May no Dindu Nuffin replace him.
10. Heard a woman caller affiliated with the Washington Opera mention that the Justice was a big fan and supporter and had appeared more than a few times as a supernumenary on stage. That would be something like spear carrier number 4. What a wonderful thing for an opera lover.
RIP
4. Scalia was the first Italian American to serve on the Supreme Court...
DAMNED STRAIGHT. And he made us all proud. He showed we loved this country as much as anybody loved it.
Heaven help any dems or repubs that smear his name by trying to push some piece of trash into the SC before next year. They’re gonna need it.
34 grandchildren as of last spring.
He was prolific in more ways than one ;-)
Good for him...doing the Lord’s work, and living His word.
Blessings to him, his family.
Great justice. Tremendous wit. The only Supreme Court opinions that makes one laugh when read. Will be sorely missed.
Yes, he will be sorely missed & sadly, I can think of no one today that has the moral compass to stand firm on their convictions as he did.
Wow! Thanks! He’s even got my [late] f-i-l beat [who also has one son an RC priest].
Here's something from the wayback machine.
God bless Justice Scalia and comfort his family. What a great man. He was a rock for our Republic. It is a dark day for our nation.
May God have mercy on us. It is almost impossible to expect the Republicans to go tell Obama to pound sand and leave the choice for next president.
Justice Scalia’s death should remind all of us that there are another at least two justices who are approaching 80 years of age. IS THERE ONE PERSON ON THIS WEBSITE WHO CAN ARGUE THAT THEY WOULD PREFER TO HAVE DONALD TRUMP RATHER THAN TED CRUZ FILLING OUR NEXT SUPREME COURT vacancies? Cruz has prepared 80 Supreme Court briefs and to the best of my knowledge argued at least 10 cases before the Court, including the critical Heller decision (where he was one of the lead attorneys). Trump has no understanding of the court and even suggested that he would appoint his nutty, left-wing federal judge sister (who is a pro-abort) to the court. WE CAN DO BETTER FOR OUR FUTURE THAN TRUMP APPOINTING SUPREME COURT JUSTICES. Trump has been an enemy of conservatives (Democrat, donor to Democrats, etc.) for most of his life. Now I’m supposed to believe he’s our friend. So, if by some miracle of hell itself, we get Trump as our president, who shows up — the Democrat Trump or the faux new Republican?
Was he ill? I don’t remember any news reports regarding his health. A sudden death with no explanation given. Lots of questions unanswered. If he had been a liberal, the media would be screaming for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. As it is, everyone in the media seems to be happy keeping their mouths shut.
Talking like an Italian, with his hands :) :(
gonna go grab a few drafts, ciao
I would have to disagree with him on stare decisis as well, particularly if the case was decided upon faulty or incomplete information. If something new is learned then the decision should be revisited.
