Trump’s Not a Conservative Icon, and I Don’t Care!
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/12/16 | Jim O'Neill

We the people have responded--to the disbelief and chagrin of the elites: "We love America, we think it is great, and you can take your global utopia and shove it where the sun don't shine!" God bless America!

Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Doo-da, doo-da. Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Oh de doo-dah day. Gonna run all night; gonna run all day. Trump’s no conservative an’ I don’t care. Votin’ Trump anyway.

To the tune of “Camptown Races/Ladies,” Stephen Foster (1826-1864) (Note: also works with “Trump’s not a liberal….”)

Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.—The Editors “National Review”

Reagan did not state that’s what he was nor was he considerered such.

So why make the comparison?

Bam. Your response hits the mark. ‘Pure’ conservatives don’t have the time to do things that actually solve problems. They’re too busy giving nuanced answers that ‘get to the root of the problem’. I saw some smug fool on Infowars (not Alex Jones, who supports Trump) who criticized Trump’s plan to build a wall because ‘it doesn’t understand the root of the problem’. He argued that if we got rid of the war on drugs, and made it less attractive for illegals to come here with benefits, etc. the problem would go away.

It amazes me when I hear clever idiots like this. He’s so impressed with his understanding of ‘root causes’, that he won’t back a plan that would make those root causes irrelevant. And he’s too stupid to understand how addressing the ‘root causes’ will always be an endless uphill battle. But, people like that are happy to watch illegal immigration destroy our country while they hold out for their ‘pure conservative’ solution that “’get’s to the root of the problem”.

Maybe other people actually read his position papers.

A lot of people who are as conservative as can be have had enough of these bloviators who think they are arguing before a constitutional convention and grandstand on talk radio but have done diddly squat because they are waiting for that perfect opportunity when the conservative stars align and Jesus appears and signs the law into place. The wall was promised since John McCain ran for Senate before he ran for president.

“A lot of people who are as conservative as can be have had enough of these bloviators who think they are arguing before a constitutional convention.”

That’s for sure. They’ve given us plenty of evidence that they’re not leaders, and yet they want us to follow them.

Trump is most certainly *NOT* a "conservative icon".

But I don't think conservatives (or the political right) are demanding a "conservative icon". I just think they want someone who has a reasonably conservative record.

Trump as president can only last 8 years; however, his SCOTUS appointments can linger for multiple decades. Given his leftist "NYC Values" history, it's how he was raised; it's all he's known and he reveals those values as his first instinct when put on the spot (ie his proclamation that Govt would pay for his universal healthcare). As for SCOTUS justices, all I've heard him say is some generic clap-trap that he would get "really good people"... Does he think Kagen, Sotomayor, Ginsberg and Souter are "really good people"? I think it's reasonable to expect someone with "NYC Values" would think so.

Meanwhile, he's got an army of pissed-off people who will walk over coals to vote for him as long as he pokes the GOP in the eye, builds a border wall and beyond that, don't seem to care if he's left of center on everything else.

I'm voting Cruz in the primary and if he doesn't win the nomination, then I will hold my nose and vote for whatever RINO/Leftist the GOP nominates to oppose "Bernie Clinton", even if that's trump.

Yes, I agree completely.

It seems to me that a number of western governments, including ours and both parties that comprise it, are Hell bent on giving their countries away to the rest of the world, and they are engaging in a process to physically replace their own native populations, by allowing in huge amounts of aliens that reproduce themselves at a much higher rate based upon unusual marriage customs.

I don’t mean to sound like a conspiracy nut, but that is exact;y what is going on.

It’s from a Canadian paper Trump will probably sue them for daring to question him. Or he’ll just hurl tweets at them. Michelle Obummer made the world a much better place through twitter and Trump can too.

Look at Ducking Donald dodge and deflect when asked about his views on late-term abortion. And this was on January 28 of this year!

He’s changed since then. How dare you dig up long dead history. If it’s not on the first page of his twitter feed there’s no reason to believe that Donald hasn’t fundamentally changed since then.

His courage is undeniable, his work ethic impeccable, and his moral compass strong and steadfast.

LOL. He lost me there...well, sooner than that.

Specifically please, which conservative principles is it okay to abandon or rewrite in a trade-off to get the "mighty" Trump elected?

Ted Cruz qualifies so I’ll vote for him instead of Trump.

I can’t figure out what I “get” with Trump in return for picking someone less conservative than Cruz. Other than someone currently polling worse against Hillary than Cruz.

If truth be told-Ted Cruz IS who everyone wants Donald Trump to be.
Trump is supposed to be the stand up, take no prisoners, tough guy- But in reality he's a deal maker who likes Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi, but who calls Ted Cruz a nasty person.

If Trump is admitting he's not conservative-We should be asking: What kind of “deals”, to get exactly what kind of “things” done, will Trump be making with the Democrats?

That's not a question we have to ask about Ted Cruz.

We know he stands firmly on the conservative-small government side of issues.

Ahh, but when Ted Cruz does those things. Trumpeters explain that he's mean and nasty.

These people must get dizzy trying to keep up.

Everyone who has said that they are a conservative while running for office has lied to me.

Ted Cruz didn't and he's also running in this race. It is totally unfair to lump Cruz in with every rat in D.C. Reliable conservatives in Congress are a minority, but they are in there and Cruz is one of them.

What did your sister expect to receive from Cruz, some cubic zirconia jewelry?

Please don’t nitpick a couple of minor, meaningless votes. The Corker bill got 98 out of 100 votes. You people rail against Cruz for not getting anything passed because not enough people vote with him. You wanted him to hopelessly take on 97 Senators on that minor bill too? Focus on issues that actually affect our lives.

I’ll answer your interrogatory Anitius with an excerpt from a previous thread;

“...We are Hell and gone from Jack Kennedy’s “ask not what your country do for you, etc.”. Today’s new political jargon is “gimmee”, a dialect that really took off with LBJ’s Great Society. Unfortunately, what used to be the Republican party learned how to speak it, too. And they’ve apparently learned to speak it well as evidenced by the last budget vote. Those in power, conservative or liberal, now know they can stay in office as long as (1) those who finance their re-elections are rewarded, and (2)they can buy the needed votes with taxpayer money. And as was shown in my own state when Thad Cochran appealed to Democrat voters to vote against fellow GOP McDaniel in the primary runoff “Democrat” and “Republican” are only titles that no longer have any meaning to our leaders except when they come home and shuffle the Johns to get re-elected. Political ideology and purity of thought mean nothing to them nowadays. What matters nowadays are the enormous sums necessary for campaigning. I’ve read that a presidential campaign will cost upwards of one billion dollars. And after the election who do you think the winner will be beholden to, you or the deep pockets he’ll need for re-election in 4 years, or 2 & 6 years for members of Congress?
Yes I support Donald Trump, simply because he’s the only candidate least likely to already be in someone else’s back pocket. The fact that he’s also demonstrated his ability to be an effective administrator is lagniappe right now. Look at EVERY other wannabe out there right now, grasping and begging for donations, and tell me who else can make that same claim. Feigned ideology aside, right now I’ll take competence and the chance of a leader not already bought off over anything else being offered at the moment, because both sides have clearly demonstrated that the dream of days past when political beliefs actually mattered are, at best, punch lines for what presently infests Washington. If someone comes along with conservative bone fides AND proof he isn’t already owned by someone else, no one will be happier than me. Till then we all have to live in the real world and play the hand we’ve been dealt. Like it or not Trump is the least bad choice...”

I can’t put my reasons for supporting Donald Trump any more succinctly than that. And I see from your flag that you’re from the “Show Me” state. So show me another candidate that you think isn’t already beholden to those controlling the pursestrings and I’ll listen. Otherwise don’t be just another useful idiot, whether conservative or liberal, and vote for the one candidate who might put country above his or her master’s pocketbook..
