In Roman Britain the weather was warmer than it is now, and this warmer climate allowed extensive vine growing throughout Britain's Roman period, and for a long time after. By 1086 when the Domesday survey was carried out there were thirty nine vineyards officially recorded in England, although the actual figure may have been much higher. Then temperatures began to drop in the second half of the sixteenth century causing a retreat of vine growing from the north and east of Europe.

The Little Ice Age is the reason Northern and Eastern Europe is beer/spirits country while Southern and Western is wine country.

Boy, are you ever confused, so let me set you straight.
The reason Romans suffered from AGW -- manmade global warming -- is the same reason we have it now: Romans drove SUV chariots, diesel powered wagons, they burned coal & trees to heat up their baths, and besides their horses farted constantly pumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.
That's why it was so warm, but thankfully barbarians from the north & east finally put an end to all that, and Europe went back into Dark & Little Ice Ages, when everybody (those still living) were much happier!
