Perhaps Trump appeals to them the same way he appeals to thousands of people who stand in long lines to hear him speak.

Contrast his crowds and the demographics thereof against the hundreds who want hear Cruz or the tens who want to hear Jeb.

We've heard this "buying the election" meme many times before when someone's popularity cannot be explained. "I don't know anyone who voted for him" "He's playing Santa and giving away free stuff to buy votes" are just a couple of examples.

Breitbart is in the business of generating traffic and selling clicks so they have a tendency to sensationalize and generate stories in ways that maximize that. They have to keep people wound up to keep them interested and clicking. I think of them as the HuffPo of the right.
