New York Values beat Southern Values: Less divorce rate than south (even counting Trump's divorces)

Just having a little fun at Cruz's expense but his talk about New York values is a little stupid.

New York - be it the city or the state or the tri-state area (NJ, CT and sometimes PA) is pretty conservative in a lot of things. For example, there is less out of wedlock births and less crime than many cities in the so called south these days and if you want to judge by divorce rates, NY and NJ rank at last while 'traditional values' states rank the highest.

Texas is one of the leading divorce rates states.

You get it. No Apology.

When the Liberals who speak for both NYC and NY State espouse values antithetical to those Conservatives prize, what is there to apologize for?

If NY Conservatives are offended, the offense they need to take is with those who espouse those values as if they speak for all New Yorkers instead of berating the Conservative who pointed that out.

Pathetic is using something from almost 20 years ago when modern day Trump has said he is now firmly against abortion. And by the way - Ronald Reagan legalized abortion in California before Roe V Wade.

That is an unfair and misleading characterization of what Reagan did. Reagan signed a bill making abortion legal in California in the cases of "medical need."

He later remarked how it he had been misled and how it was a mistake. He complained that everyone who wanted one simply got a note from their doctor saying it was medically necessary when it really wasn't.

You should not be spreading false impressions about what Reagan did and why.

But he made it legal. And changed his mind 20 years later.

Jesus can cure anything but blacks?

All things are possible through the Lord. Now, if we can stop the spread of Islam, that might help.

Your post makes a lot of assumptions.

The fact remains that the most politically vocal "New Yorkers" are leftists who have moved to New York from other states.

It's very tiresome for those of us who were born and raised in New York City to hear the constant: "Well, I was born in Anytown, USA which is so backwards and superconservative and now I feel like I'm finally home among my real people" stories.

Then they get annoyed when you point out to them that almost all the people they congregate with and feel at home with in NYC are fellow Midwesterners, Southerners, Westerners, etc. who all have the same sob stories about how they had to go to Sunday school and Wednesday Bible study, and football games and eat loads and loads of barbecue and other atrocities.

Meanwhile, many of us locals went to CCD or parochial school, and First Fridays, went to basketball and baseball games, and ate tons of pizza, etc.

Native white Christian ethnic New Yorkers are the most conservative people in NYC, and also only 50% of the white population and 15% of the total population.

Yet the classic idea of a New Yorker in most people's minds is either a blue collar white Irish or Italian dude shouting "Yo, your team sucks! Let's go Yankees!" or a slick banker or lawyer.

The former is a local and is typically patriotic, pro-military, goes hunting and fishing, to church on Sunday, does all the normal American cultural activities. They are the 20% of NYC who voted against Obama.

The latter in real life is usually an import from elsewhere.

Vote Trump. He pledged no Muslim immigration to the USA - at least for a while. Best offer I heard out there.

Seriously, where are you people getting your info about NY? It's like me saying I know the South from watching Hee Haw.

Peter Luger's Steakhouse? Hello? New York steak? Pizza?

What's that line at the end of Goodfella's where the mobster has to go into the witness protection program and when he goes out to eat Italian food he now gets what he compares to 'egg noodles and ketchup'.

Do you even have Italian food in Idaho?

But he made it legal. And changed his mind 20 years later.

He made "medically necessary" abortions legal, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. He didn't change his mind, he was against elective abortions when he signed that bill.

Actually, I was referring to prison converts in the Black community. I agree, though. If we are going to let anyone in, let them be Christians, teach them English, and assimilate them.

“So you want a Constitutional conservative to “beg forgiveness” from liberals?”

Mistakes should be corrected, not doubled-down on. That includes Trump’s trumped-up birther attack, and Cruz’s stupid New York values remark. I-never-make-mistakes nonsense is very harmful.

That is what Trump was talking about in the video - the so called partial birth abortions controversy over life of the mother in a late term abortion, etc.

When did conservatives start believing it’s a mistake to criticize pro-abortion, pro-queer, anti-gun “values?”

Thank you for your response. I’ll stand with Ted.

And quit using 911 as an excuse to support your candidate. During 911 the entire nation stood with New York regardless of personal values. It was the American thing that unites us when any of our brethren are faced with a crisis.

This is a political race and it’s getting dirty. Lies, insinuations, and accusations are all a part of the game to make candidates unfavorable in the electorates eyes. I am confident Ted and his conservative values will weather this storm. It’s going to take more than this to bring Ted down.

The media keep throwing stones. The electorate are watching and waiting to see who is behind the stones. Media influence worked well in the past but it might not be as effective this election cycle. People are tired of the media selecting our candidates through rigged polls and other derogatory hit pieces.

So you vote as you believe and I will do likewise. But I will not be influenced by the liberal media or any candidate that supports their views.

Right on. I fell sorry for New Yorkers who allow themselves to be used as “victims” because someone does not agree with their values. They are not victims. They are who they are.

Let Ted stand on his values. He did not ask them to apologize for their values. He only disagreed. Let New Yorkers do the same. Somewhere between the two, we will find the truth.

Like I said in another post, you cannot b*tch-slap these people and then rush into the 9-11 group shot.

They have a complete right to use their response as a city to 9-11 to show their “values” You cant just tell them that that had nothing to do with them because it makes what Cruz said (in context or not) look REAL bad.

The top murder states seem to be in the south.

All large urban areas are afflicted by the same problems - northern ones benefit from long, cold winters that curtail some criminal behavior. Duh.

Don’t mock Jesus at least I sure wouldn’t

I got feeling you’re not into all that anyhow

One has to listen to Jesus or God

Allow them into their heart and accept that God sent his son her to die on the cross to absolve us of their sins and give us everlasting life by his side

The issues such as this one about black dysfunctionality worldwide is more than just whether or not Jesus can fix

It really doesn’t work like that

Maybe good works and tikkun Olam work that way

God fixes humanity thru humans

That’s not Christianity

Personally I think black culture worldwide lags due to lack of civilization and geographic isolation and perhaps humanoid evolvement anomalies

They will blame slavery and colonization and ignore the problem exists in places where there was none

All groups have this to varying they just appear to have it the worst

It’s non fixable in quick time nor should it be used to excuse or punish them

I know for a fact many are Christians no question

I’d wager the highest proportion Christians in America is old black grandmas in rural Dixie

Now I’m fixing to drive down the trace from Leipers Fork at my end to Jackson MS where I grew up and people are for funeral of a friend

So you get last word or find someone else to entertain you

I don’t mock Judaism or most other beliefs btw so I’d be careful

Mock Islam if you must

I was in a car in extreme rural Colorado in November with a liberal half Jewish half Catholic atheist who mocked Christ in my car

I told him if he did it again his ass would be on the side of the road between Paonia and Carbondale hitching

As a southern baptist mocking God is dangerous

Those mocking God tend to be the states that claim to be the bible belt yet have high crime and divorce rates.
