Glocks vs 1911
AShooting Journal ^ | 12/21/2015 | S Morstan

The never ending debate of which is better for every day carry and personal protection continues. Here are some folks had to say from Glocks and 1911 forums:

Vintage68: I don't think anyone would say the Glock is a bad pistol because it's not. They're incredibly reliable, if ugly, tools. I think most people, at least on a 1911 forum, will say that that the feel of a 1911 in the hand and the trigger will beat the snot out of a Glock any day of the week.

McMagic: 1911 is a much nicer platform. Glocks are notoriously hard to get sighted in correctly due to the lack of a true iron sight, and instead just the dots on the slide. Try shooting both at your local gun club/range, I would be willing to bet you prefer the 1911.

ripdog28: Consistent training with both. I can now grab the Glock and with eyes closed, come to a Natural Point of Aim. Sights dead on. But that's also thousands of draws from different positions. Can do the same with a 1911. Think based on the grip feel, I recognize it and based on muscle memory of the grip, the NPA is easy to differentiate between. You can view the rest of the debate here and what's your take on this?

I have had a Glock, in one form or another, for about 15 years. It never discharged unless I asked it to.

It’s pretty darn quiet compared to my buddy’s AR-15.

In engines and guns displacement wins every time.

1911

If not that my old Ithica trench shotgun is the first think I’ll grab in the house.

It’s a silly debate. The best handgun for anyone is the one you feel most comfortable with and shoot the best. Period.

Gotta learn not to pull your pistol from the holster by the trigger.

OMG that's funny...... I can just visualize it..............

I've had both. I currently have two 1911s, a Colt and a Ruger Commander. Both cost more than the Glock 21 that I used to have. The Glock worked fine, and always went "BANG", but with every single magazine the first shot was always a flyer and my hand would take a beating when shooting it. My 1911s shoot to point of aim, and are less punishing during extended range sessions. I actually just traded the Glock and an old Remington 700 for a Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15. Not he cheap one either. Oh, the trade was set up online, no background check, no waiting period. God Bless Texas! Here's the new toy... photo IMG_20151214_1720402_zpsdvasub1f.jpg

The thin margin of error with Glocks puts me off, too. Too many cases of “Glock Leg” for me to be comfortable with them(and similar designs.)

That's purdy.
Here's the AR I built this year:

I'm still trying to polish the stainless barrel so it'll look like a mirror. Just for the heck of it.

that little tab is not supposed to be a ‘safety”...its a drop safety. Glocks are designed to be pulled and fired quickly. no fiddling around with a lever or a button, wondering “is it on or off”..which is exactly why ill never own anything else. Keep your finger off the trigger, thats Glocks safety.

Love shooting my Series 70 Gold Cup, tricked out for competition.

Alas, the years and the rounds have taken their toll, and too many small items are needing replacement.

That and the take-down....

So, I’ve moved on to the Sig P220, Carry, SAO for EDC.

My Glock 36 hardly ever comes out, as the 230 grain FMJs are just a bit much for that light frame, and the 185 JHPs a bit too pricey to practice with.
